1143637 2010-10-11 07:47:00 With similar requirements (graphics) I built a machine in March using parts from Computer Lounge. The first one I've ever built, at age 63. It worked without problems and I am very pleased with it:

CPU: i5-750
MB: GA-P55A-UD4 (has USB-3)
Graphics: 5450 (has HDMI, DVI, no fan)
RAM: 8 GB, 1333MHz
OS: Win7pro64

If doing it again, I wouldn't bother with the 'pro'version of Win7. I would also go for a beefier graphics card, perhaps a GT 240 which is similarly quiet. I might also swap half the RAM (the cost of) for instalment on an 80 GB Intel SSD, 34 nm.

I found Photoshop 6 doesn't work perfectly on Win7-64 but is adequate for me. Adobe Premiere Pro2 also has some problems but is just about adequate. Note that the current version of Premiere (CS5) requires 64-bit OS

1143639 2010-10-11 17:41:00 Computer lounge & Ascent are probably the best, I do use PB tech occasionally and have used Playtech as well but that was only to buy a GPS gary67 (56)
1143640 2010-10-11 18:42:00 Well I just bought a new GPS, so won't be needing that. :). But thanks for the other two. Seems favourite vote is ascent. dpDesignz (15919)
1143641 2010-10-11 20:49:00 If using CS5, I would get a Nvidia graphic card to off load the graphical processing to the CUDA programming on the card, The GF106 & GF108 variates of Fermi are due to be release anon, but if not available just get a 460 GTX 768Mb card...

I would recommend an SSD for O/S and programs with perhaps a RAID 1 array for data.

Thanks for that. Should help quite a bit.

1143643 2010-10-12 01:38:00 +1 for computerlounge's pre-built systems (if you don't want to build it yourself).

They are very well priced and CL can customize them however you like.
