869371 2010-03-23 02:18:00 I'm looking at Slingshot's naked DSL plan, and was wondering if anyone's on it currently? So far this month I've made/received a total of 5 calls on my landline, and I'm totally over paying $40 a month for the privilege.

It seems a pretty good deal - 25Gb cap, full-speed UL/DL, free off-peak downloads (handy for those Linux distro's and all the updates for all my PC's) for $79.95 per month.

869372 2010-03-23 03:06:00 I'm not but I was Naked with Orcon previously. It's not as daunting as it might seem, and most people have a Cell for the odd requirement to make a phone call, or there's free SIP lines through the likes of 2talk ... Just chuck on $10 credit and it'll last you MONTHS :D

I've spoken with a few people about the Slingshot free off-peak who've said it's been pretty good. Top speeds during the day and surprisingly good speeds at night too.

869373 2010-03-23 03:10:00 Cheers Chill - what's involved in getting a forward on my home number (Telecom) to either my cell or SWMBO's (both Vodafone)? nofam (9009)

If you have naked DSL you won't have a Telecom phone number anymore.

Depends? Naked ADSL still have a VOIP number right?

We haven't considered it, folks are not computer literate. Ie., setting up or resetting the router. We also need to replace a good few of phones into VOIP (replace or convert) or at least get a cordless VOIP 2 handset perhaps and a fixed line for the kitchen. We don't use the phone often but they sometimes use it for international calls, me thinks it might not be that reliable than a standalone copper or cable dedicated phone connection.

Still seems a bit pricey.

869379 2010-03-23 08:29:00 $79.97 seems OK? 20GB with the likes of Telecom costs $59.95, plus $44.95 for a line = $105.95

Here's what you'll want to do:
Switch to the new ISP, but tell them that you're going to want to port your number at a later date. Same for calling Telecom, let them know that you're going to want to port it, and not to put it back in the pool...

You need to do it this way because otherwise if you port first, your line will be disconnected and you'll lose your broadband, so make sure you port SECOND ;)

Then, when you've got an ETA and you're 3-5 days away from the broadband porting, you want to contact 2talk. Email them porting [at] 2talk [dot] co [dot] nz
Basically you wanna sign up for either the 2talk Go Free, or 2talk 500, and add the Local DDI for $7 a month. From there when the number is ported, you can register it to an ATA device or a SIP Phone, or even a Softphone, and make calls (15 mins a month included I think) and receive unlimited calls.

That'll get you switched, and get you to keep your number, not to mention once it's with 2talk you can forward it anywhere you want to from their control panel with *ease* :-) Probably better to buy yourself an ATA Adapter for $60 which will let you use your regular phone with the SIP line, coz it's probably gonna cost you per-min to have it forwarded.

Hope that helps :-)

Chill.
