But for some reason I missed the result of the one before Tua. I'm sure that it wasn't me but in fact the TV chappies who failed to show the result.
Anyway did the tall lanky American win ?

871544 2010-03-31 21:43:00 Noticed that as well. Tua fight was pretty boring and only starting watching at the fight before it (the one you're talking about). But both were crap, who cares who won. --Wolf-- (128)
871545 2010-03-31 21:48:00 I don't think Tua did himself any good - a boring fight that had the commentators having to eat humble pie.

So much for David stamping his authority with class :( :(

871546 2010-03-31 22:40:00 He's over the hill. When will these "has beens" learn that they should give up with grace and while they are on a high. David will get murdered if he proceeds! Bryan (147)
871547 2010-03-31 23:41:00 Yup it was crap. It wasnt worth watching. I could have done better blindfolded Speedy Gonzales (78)
871548 2010-04-01 00:35:00 Sorry, but you guys are largely missing the point of last night's result - Ahunanya is a decent enough boxer to get out of the way of anyone, and seeing as he spent the whole fight going backwards and not throwing punches, it was always going to be a mission impossible for Tua to knock hum out. Ahunanya had a gameplan of survival, and it was obvious after the first round that he could never win; he fought entirely defensively, and was obviously hoping Tua would get frustrated and start taking risks, which never happened.

I thought Tua showed good footwork and handspeed, really good fitness in the later rounds, and patient aggression, which he will need against better fighters in the future.

It would've been nice to see a knockout for sure, but Friday has proved how good his chin is, and without showing a willingness to engage Tua, it was always going to end the way it did.

871549 2010-04-01 00:41:00 I agree nofam, and isnt Tuas chin as good as fridays? I hope he does well in the future Gobe1 (6290)
871550 2010-04-01 00:44:00 it was Boring! I am happy for Tua's win but a little more action was needed from both the fighters. ronyville (10611)

Indeed - Tua has only ever been rocked twice in his career as Bob Sheridan pointed out last night - once by Lennox Lewis, who was a formidable champion, and once by Ike Ibeabuchi, who probably would've been a heavyweight champion if not for serious personal issues.

He's always going to struggle against taller fighters with longer reach, but his attack is so much better now; no-one could stand up to the body rips he was delivering last night - as I said it was only Ahunanya's unwillingness to come forward that saved him.

871552 2010-04-01 01:06:00 ITT: Everyone (except nofam) knows nothing about boxing and thinks a fight can only be good if there's a knock out.

Was a ****ing awesome fight tbh. Well impressed with Tua's fitness and perseverance. Friday was always on the back foot but always managed to get away.
