| 870944 | 2010-03-29 11:07:00 | I am about to buy a new cell phone that works on Telecoms new network (XT?) but first wd like to get some advice on whether its sensible to buy one that is capable of working on networks in the UK and Italy (by buying a sim card in those areas)Telecom advises that the sim card i'd get with the phone here would work ok overseas but the costs for calls both sent & received are very high [up to $4.50/minute]. Maybe I would do better by hiring, or even buying a cheap one with a cheap prepaid plan for the month or so i'd need it in Europe? i'd guess Heathrow wd have some retailers who'd be in that market. If so, an email address or contact wd be very helpful. And which telecom-supplied cell phone, with reasonable camera, features and say up to $400, would be a god buy? |

| 870945 | 2010-03-29 16:19:00 | Get yourself a cellphone on arrival in Europe, make sure it is no locked to a specific network if possible, that way you can get a new sim card in the next country and insert. I don't know which cellphone companies operate in Europe but lets assume for a moment that Vodafone was one of them, you might only need the one sim card as it might roam as you move between countries. EG: A Vodafone NZ cellphone works ok in Australia using the kiwi sim card. Maybe ask Vodafone NZ what your options are, I beleive Vodafone NZ cellphones are no longer locked which if that is the case makes it easy to slot in a sim card from ABC company. If you take your Telecom phone with you to Europe, Telecom will charge you dearly for it. |

| 870947 | 2010-03-30 01:36:00 | A vodafone will work just about anywhere in Europe, check out the roaming costs before you go though I wouldn't worry about roaming with a kiwi vodafone, providing the NZ Vodafone's are not locked, just get a one on prepay and on arrival in Europe, get a British Vodafone Sim Card or a sim card from which ever cell company and replace the kiwi sim, again using prepay. Thats all I do with my NZ Vodafone cell, I have a collection of SIM cards for Australia and Asia and swap the cards as I go. At one point though, NZ Vodafone were starting to lock there phone's but I heard recently that they may have gone back to selling them unlocked. |

| 870949 | 2010-04-08 03:26:00 | thanx to all. goood advice in what not to do (before i went & did!) my searching ended up with ORANGE, who do have stores in Heathrow terminals, and who have perfectly functional fones with SIM cards, and very competitive pricing [starting from 5 GBP,+10 GBP topup).if poss, i'll try to get a phone that can be used with NZ sim card for when i get home. check Orange out - shop.orange.co.uk |
