871367 2010-04-01 23:39:00 Have you looked into whether it would be viable to rent a moving truck yourself to do the move? That can't possibly be more than paying movers, surely many thousands less.

However, I suppose neither of you would have HT licenses :( If you do though, or you find someone who does who could help you, that might be something to think about.

Sorry to hear of your dire situation. Wishing you all the best. Be thankful at least that you have the equity in your home to pay for the trip, so you are able to move at all.

Oooh.....that's a dangerous offer. I can think of loads of things we need help with.........but son will be made to help with a lot of imposition stuff and manual labouring and so on........:D

871370 2010-04-02 06:15:00 Well I'm not doing anything financially as I am in need of help for that myself (can't afford a 5850, etc :p). But if it's something like a bit of manual labour or whatnot I'd be happy to help. Although that does depend on the moving date - I only have a 2 week break (although it's still infested with studying and assignments) from uni, then it's morning - evening schedule for me. qazwsxokmijn (102)
871371 2010-04-02 07:26:00 You guys are the ones always going on about dole bludgers, well guess what, we get WINZ assistance now cause our work doesn't pay the bills . Not total Winz, I have to send her P&L statements to have it adjusted according to what we make but still . It sucks .

It's dropped off heaps, mine is probably better than his at the moment, some of that is the recession but we can't keep doing this .

I have no objection to my tax payer dollars paying you a benefit, simply because you are getting out there and trying to make a living, and keeping positive . Its the people who stay on the benefit for years, and make it part of their lifestyle that are the problem .

The recession is definatly having an effect . The media would lead you to believe it is over, but in the real world, people are really struggling, and it certainly hasn't turned a corner .

There should be lots of plumbing and roofing work in Auckland, with all the leaky buildings up there that need rebuilding .

871372 2010-04-02 07:28:00 That only works if there's no (or very little) mortgage on the house. If there is a mortgage, then all the rent would go towards paying the mortgage, and pctek would still need to find the money from somewhere to rent in Auckland.

That said - provided she can find a tenant, renting out her existing place does make sense. The tenant should hopefully cover whatever debt exists on the property, and you don't lose a valuable fiscal asset.

Good luck finding a good tenant that doesn't trash the place, or setup a P Lab. Many people treat rentals very poorly, and sometimes the cost of fixing up problems caused by renters, outweighs any profit you make.

They're not looking for somewhere to trash or cook up drugs, they just want a place to live. Erayd (23)

871375 2010-04-02 23:26:00 Bummer about moving, but out west truly is best :D

Oi!! Don't forget there are some Jaffas who have the polish and suavity regarded as characteristic of sophisticated social life in major cities. We, of course, mostly live in the eastern suburbs.

Plumbing? I have a good mate who has a well established plumbing business, and I do know he's having a difficult time making ends meet and paying the wages, so that may be an issue for you to consider. Having said that, Auckland is possibly on the brink of a housing crisis with more and more immigrants arriving daily - forecast tell of Auckland will shortly not have enough houses to go around. I wish you and your other half all the best, PCTek. :2cents:
