1144215 2010-10-13 02:35:00 Yeah the quadro cards are certainly in a league of their own...... FX3800 is $1800 bucks on its own. I normally buy the FX1800 at around $900 but they are starting to struggle with the larger models our draughties are getting into
We have tried good gaming cards in the past but you cant beat the quadro for reliability

Conflict on the Raid, Wratt says yes Sol says no, any other one think it is not worth it??

260Mb\s+ sequential read\write when the bus maxs at 300mb\s, and 50mb/s random......CAD files will be sequentially written and therefore the lose of TRIM commands on a SSD RAID array is not worth it IMHO!.....I think it better to speed up the traditional storage via RAID 0 stripe for write of RAID 1 for read and fault tolerance....or just get 4 and RAID 1+0...the saving on the extra SSD will buy the other 3...LOL

1144219 2010-10-13 21:23:00 Yeah the builder looked at the specs of the ocz drive and even tho it was an email i could see the eyes pop out of his head LOL Gobe1 (6290)
1144220 2010-10-13 21:31:00 Giving someone who probably normally builds $1200 PCs a build like this is like giving a kid a new bike for Christmas. I know, I am one of those people! :D wratterus (105)
1144221 2010-10-13 21:56:00 haha yeah the last build was similar but only had the velocirator hdd but still fast and the FX1800 graphics and 2.8ghz i7 cpu. They mentioned the staff were impressed and happy to build it
I also enjoy setting up beasts like this for our staff. I can be a pleasure working on a fast pc

EDIT: I hate laptops

hehe, my lappy boots faster than anything in the office...LOL...

edit-still think you should of built an array for the data as you wont be storing all your designs on the SSD?, surely!!
edit 2 - notice you still have 32bit o/s, whats the program you wish to install?, unless it has drivers, I dont see why it wont run in 32bit?!

1144223 2010-10-13 22:10:00 Just to ensure you are getting the right build you could send one to me for testing purposes for a year or two. :)

I promise to give you a full report at the end of that time so you may ensure the box is up to standard.

Enjoy!!

1144224 2010-10-13 22:16:00 Our autocad add on "bentley autoPLANT" is still 32 bit only and still wont work on anything over autocad 2009 yet. it is the piping package and specs

We are looking at autodesk equivalent "PLANT3D" which will be 64 bit compatible but have to look at the budget to see if it is worth it or as good as the bentley package

All work is generally done over the network so it is backedup
Some users copy it locally to work on and then copy back but only if the network slows it down significantly ie solidworks is a dog across the network

EDIT: snork good idea, i might bench test it at home first....

Just had a second quote come in from another pc builder in town, exactly the same price. good to see they can match the prices of the online builders
