871317 2010-03-31 03:53:00 why not give wellington a try

1)Hate Wellington more than Akld
2)The problem with other places is the "jaffa" thing - that eliminates the entire Sth Island and possibly parts of the Nrth.
3)It will take both of us working, husband will probably get back into the selfemployed work he had before in Akld - it's dubious elsewhere, considering we have tried it, and he has the contacts etc up there.
4)All the jobs are in Akld, OK, not all of them but a lot more, and the sort of thing I'm likely to get work as. Which is probably going to be office work, in the IT area.
At least thats what I've applied for mostly and they do ring me.
They also want me to be there now however.

871318 2010-03-31 03:56:00 Keep driving to Whangarei and come work for me :D
Seriously we are looking for a tech at the moment.
Don't know of any plumbing jobs going though sorry but we did interview one guy who is a plumber but wants to work in IT.

871320 2010-03-31 04:27:00 I certainly wouldn't head to a remote place to make a living. But if I retired, I could do just that, meet nice people, tourist, kick back and just enjoy :p

I enjoy landscape photography, the South Island is like a different country.

871321 2010-03-31 04:48:00 Wellingtons no more windy than a lot of places in the country - well apart from around the bee hive - more like hot air though.

Work wise --- its up and down, last couple of weeks so-so, but this week, flat out working from 9am- 9PM every day - all of next weeks booked up with appointments already. But the week after -- well who knows.

Plumbers ???? What are they  -- when ever you try to get one around the wellington area its like trying to find rocking horse sh1t -- all say they are to busy or booked out months in advance OR maybe just to lazy ???

Good luck on the move though - and job prospects ( for you both).

871323 2010-03-31 06:05:00 Welcome back pctek. :D Back to west or what? qazwsxokmijn (102)
871324 2010-03-31 06:07:00 Best of luck with the job searching. You will be leaving a big gap in the services available to rural Southland, but if they aren't going to support you, there is nothing you can do :(. Greven (91)
871325 2010-03-31 06:36:00 Welcome home!

If you need any help moving in when you get here, give me a yell.

(You're moving back at the right time - the horrible humidity has finally disappeared - lovely cool mornings, but not as crispy as you would be recently used to!!)

871326 2010-03-31 06:49:00 I'm sorry to hear that Pctek but you are right - there are more opportunities in Auckland. You gave the quiet life a good go and you'll have met many decent people. Best of luck on the move. Winston001 (3612)
