1144456 2010-10-13 11:43:00 Hi i have recently purchased a new PC the person i brought it off recommended a 32 bitOS although im not sure what the disadvantage of 64 bit would be.

Any help would be appreciated.

Specs:

Asus P5Q Pro Mobo

Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo CPU 3.GHz

4 x 1GB Corsair 800MHz 4-4-4-12 DDR2

250 GB Western Digital SATA HDD

Gigabyte 9600GT 1GB DDR3 RAM
dualcore silent (no fan)

1144457 2010-10-13 11:56:00 I see no reason to go for 32 bit rather than 64 bit.

Which O/S do you have in mind?

1144458 2010-10-13 12:00:00 Hi and thanks for the fast reply.
My old system was running XP which i quite like although i was thinking of upgrading to Windows7 64Bit as it should be a nice change and my old PC couldnt handle it.

Do you see any problems with Windows7 and this PC?

1144459 2010-10-13 12:08:00 No. It may depend on what applications you wish to run and do you have Printers, Scanners etc that you want to connect that do not have 64 bit drivers?

You will need a 64bit Win7 for you to be able to use the amount of RAM you have.

1144460 2010-10-13 12:14:00 Im really not going to connect printers or anything external to it, i also will only be playing WoW and possibly some other games now that i have a system that can cope.

Other than that just web browsing i could also use Duel boot incase i did come across a few apps i needed to run on 32.

1144461 2010-10-13 12:20:00 So then go for 64 bit is my advice. Heaps of 32 bit Apps do run under Win7 64 but there are a few that are not compatible. Snorkbox (15764)
1144462 2010-10-13 12:20:00 ...Other than that just web browsing i could also use Duel boot incase i did come across a few apps i needed to run on 32.This isn't necessary - 64bit Win7 can run both 64bit and 32bit applications just fine. You don't need to dual-boot; they will happily coexist on the same system at the same time. Erayd (23)
