1145486 2010-10-16 23:33:00 A friend of mine is buying himself a new gaming PC, he asked me for an opinion on the specs, I though I'd run it past you guys (and gals) to see what other opinions are.

Personally I think the 6 core CPU is a bit over the top for what he'll be doing but he really wants it!

RAM:8GB DDR3-1333 Dual Channel Low Latency Memory

DVD: 24X Dual Layer DVD-RW SATA < not sure on brand. didn't specify

Graphics: Nvidia Geforce GTX 450 1GB GDDR5 DX11 PhysX Ready.

1145487 2010-10-16 23:38:00 I would change the PSU to corsair and maybe bump up the wattage GameJunkie (72)
1145488 2010-10-17 01:10:00 Drop to a quad core and get a better video card, also what gamejunky said about the PSU Deimos (5715)
1145489 2010-10-17 01:14:00 Is it a GTS 450 or GTX 460? Because GTX 450 doesn't exist. qazwsxokmijn (102)
1145490 2010-10-17 01:16:00 I have a GTS 450, quite happy with it. If I had the money I would go for a GTX460 at least... SoniKalien (792)
1145491 2010-10-17 01:24:00 Ok, cheers for that, similar to what I told him, drop the 6 core and maybe up the GFX card to suit.

1145492 2010-10-17 01:26:00 Nah, get a 1156 setup, much more cost effective than a 1366, and take the RAM down to 4GB, even 6GB is still a bit much even for gaming. Then upgrade the video card to a GTX 470. qazwsxokmijn (102)

I concur, drop down to an 1156 i5 or i7, and go up to a GTX 470 or a Radeon 5850
