873664 2010-04-06 09:42:00 I've been looking all over the internet and there actually aren't many lists that have considered multiple genres of games and all the platforms so heres what i think:

FPS: Half Life & Halo
Racing: Gran Turismo & Test Drive Unlimited
RPG: Final Fantasy (even though I hate it), Castle Crashers & Mass Effect
Music: Audio Surf
Random Addictive Games: Pac-Man & any Pokemon Game
Sim: Sims & Home

873671 2010-04-06 10:54:00 The Settlers by Blue Byte. Think I have had every version since it first came out on the Commodore Amiga way back when. Now up to Settlers 7. Still enjoy it. Also all the C & C games. Latest one C & C Tiberian Twilight.

873672 2010-04-06 15:06:00 Wolfenstein 3D, CnC, Word of Warcraft, Starcraft, GTA, Warcraft, Age of Empires, Dune 2 and most importantly I shall say The Elder Scroll series especially Morrowind, add to that list the Total War series, SimCity 2000 and Civilizations, Gran Tourismo, Unreal Tournament and Black and White.

And most importantly of all COMMANDER KEEN!

FPS

Doom
Duke Nukem

Absolutely and totally DOOM!

Doom brought a whole raft of new features to gaming.
It was an effective simulation of 3D, with pretty much all else at the time being side-scrolling 2D tedium.

Doom released our fingers from the keyboard by using the mouse for all primary movement, and in the process introduced the possibility for accuracy as a players desirable attributes (not that aiming needed to be accurate in DOOM).

Doom brought reactionary audio - the monstors would be heard when they reacted to your presence.

Doom brought multiplayer via network and internet.

By comparison with all others before it, DOOM was truely revolutionary. I was in awe that they could get so much from a 33MHz processor!
