2010-04-02 09:00:00 | I must say I have also had a couple of bad warranty experiences with Quay (during the time you worked there, although it wasn't you I dealt with) I was there (Quays) in the later half of 2002 , then started my own business in 2003 - Never looked back ( own boss - well apart from SWMBO). feed me the bullshit line that warranty on warranty-replaced parts was only three months and gave me a huge invoice Thats not right - most warranties run from the day they start - Eg: if a part has a 3 year warranty ( which most Motherboards do) after 6 months the board fails, then if the Board is replaced under warranty, it doesn't start again though, it carries on from the original date, so the person would have 2 1/2 years left. If that baord fails after 2 1/2 years - then theres 6 months left.

2010-04-02 09:17:00 | Damn timer ran out  Add to above comments ---- From the Consumers Guarantee act Guarantees on replacement models When a faulty product is replaced, any manufacturer's warranty on the product usually runs only from the original purchase date. So, if a six month old washing machine is replaced because it is faulty, and there was originally a 12 month manufacturer's warranty on it, then this warranty will have six months to run on the new machine. Back to Computers: The supplier/ builder has to replace say a faulty board with the same or close as possible to the original specs. Where that changes is when the customer wants a higher spec component than the original, then there is a charge for the difference in the parts. Example: if the original board had Onboard graphic's ( basic Board) and the replacement is the same then no charge, BUT if the person wants upgrading to the latest Bells and whistles board, with graphic card, then the difference in cost is charged.

2010-04-02 10:29:00 | Yes, I'm aware of that - however as the entire system was under a year old, it was still under warranty. Nor did I ask for an upgrade. I simply dropped the system off, explained that it was broken & what the symptoms were, gave them the receipts, and asked for it to be fixed please. | Erayd (23) | |

Sounds all plain and simple request -- I can't see why there would have been a problem. Just curious - What Year was that Erayd ? I knew all the guys out the back in the service department - the people out front -- Different story ;) |

2010-04-02 21:57:00 | Yes, I did have a receipt. It was a small receipt not a full A4 page one. They had a look at the CDROM, back in 1997 or so .. on the drive had a sticker with the words "EDGE" on it .. and they said it wasn't from them. Think it was a CDROM or could of been a HD..... They didn't even check the drive. Just said it wasn't from them. I did leave it there cos the lady was behind the counter. But when I went back later .. they said it wasn't from them and I had to ask to get it back. I was 18 back then ... not sure if that was a factor .... The drive wasn't from them, I bought a computer from Edge Computers in Petone in '97, they put those little stickers on all the internal parts.

2010-04-02 22:13:00 | The drive wasn't from them, I bought a computer from Edge Computers in Petone in '97, they put those little stickers on all the internal parts. Then how did Quay sold it to me then .. As a kid I lived in Wellington suburbs, never been to Petone ever. At the time I bought all my stuff from Quay. I kitted up a AMD K6 200Mhz PC just prior to uni at the time, all parts from Quay - apart from the CPU which was bought at Turners Auctions and using my old 386 case and monitor and keyb and mouse .. As a kid we always just thought of Quay and they had those printed A4 pages of computer parts. A few items were bought elsewhere, DSE for a (Diamond Data) CDROM after the Quay experience and a SB16 CDROM (Creative Labs) from Noel Leeming. Didn't know much computers. Oh and a I got a broken FD from Second Byte then he tried to add like $20 GST haha .... A printer was bought from PC Direct and a portable BubbleJet from Noel Leeming ... that's about it ... Maybe yonks before some RAM for my 386 from Computer Express before they fold up, the original 386 was from PC Power before they folded too, and they gave me preloaded DOS 5 without diskettes and charged us over a hundred, haha ... at least we got the Honeywell guys to load it back for us when the PSU died and I accidentally did a low level format before that :p
