873167 2010-04-06 23:53:00 We seem to get our "Santana" winds

Joe, why do you persist in calling the Santa Ana winds, Santana winds? As far as I know, they've always been called Santa Ana. Here's an article from UC Merced on the Santa Ana effect:

873168 2010-04-07 08:08:00 We are getting hit right now with a series of quakes - the biggest was a 7.2, but about 200+ miles away from here. They figure the effective Richter number here was at least a 6.0 or greater.

Luxury!

When we were kids our dad used to blow up dynamite under our beds to make sure we woke up properly to go to work. Earthquakes were good to help us nod off to sleep.

You have heard of Carlos Santana the musician? Jo is also keen on music. I suspect it is his wee joke. I may be wrong of course, but it fits. Nicely.

Possibly, except Joe made that assertion in a previous post, and there was no reference made then to Carlos, or to General Santana et al. If I were a musician of Carlos' stature I think I would resent any connection being made between myself and hot air. On the other hand, General Santana ... ;)

873171 2010-04-08 00:45:00 General Santana?

I hardly think so; widespread Santana perhaps.

The old dogs here in SoCal always called them that. It's an association thing since I first moved here with my parents.

There is also a city called Santa Ana and if you knew it, you'd make sure that you never said that name again.

Therefor I stick with the old-but-true 'Santana'

They're all little BLUE boxes!

Unless your 2 . 0s are not like OUR 2 . 0s, then I find that very interesting .

Perhaps they aren't earthquakes at all, but people trying to drive in NZ with an out-of-country GPS unit and just running into things .

I used to fly out of Orange County Airport in the late 70's, Then, it was a pleasant enough area although I was always glad to get back to Santa Monica.

Via the Santa Ana Freeway, of course. :p

Ahhhhhhhhhh! The OC Airport, aka "Santa Ana Dragstrip & Airport", aka "John Wayne Airport"

Actually OCA is in Irvine - well just the tip of it anyway . Kinda stuck between Costa Mesa, Santa Ana and Irvine/Turtle Rock . They wanted to move it to Sand Canyon out where the hills weren't so steep and there weren't any tall buildings then .

I lived right under it with my wife, right behind the Orange County Fairgrounds . We never really heard it at all in the time we lived there except when a general aviation (private) aircraft was making a downwind left (West) approach in an emergency .

Now the US Marine Lighter Than Air Support Facility, 'El Toro', was a different story . They had blimps! Noisy blimps . It is to the direct North of OCA . Did you ever see it?
