| 872859 | 2010-04-05 00:07:00 | So I am obviously not a voice in the wilderness on this one then? The surviving Fat Cook tells us that in the so-called United Kingdom, if you have your pack of hounds on display, and children are able to touch and pet them, Health and Safety require that you have Wet Wipes to hand out to the children so they can decontaminate themselves afterwards! How did the Blair Brown Project get away with that in Britain where dogs are treated like gods? I suppose it was the same way as all these things are happening here - we are so risk averse we will end up with no gumption, no initiative, no get up and go, and will wonder where it all went. When I was 16, two of us chucked our bikes and gear into the cabbage train at Rangiora, went through to Blenheim overnight, and then spent the next three weeks roaming around Nelson Marlborough on our bikes as far as Kaiteriteri, and then back again. No contact maintained with the old farter at home - he had no idea where we were. Nowadays he would be taken to court for letting me do that. I suppose we could have been killed, or touched up by an old pervert, but we weren't. Got a lot out of it though, including a wee bit about (censored, you are all too young). And what was wrong with the old DoC and Forest Service/deer culler huts anyway? I bet I have fonder memories of them than young people will have of the current OSH friendly huts when they are in their dotage. |

They were made out of Manuka Poles, lashed together with sacking to lie on. The sacking sagged and it was like being in a hammock. Ditto in the old huts in Arthur's Pass and the Hollyford - it was like lying in a cradle! |

Simple ! |
