1145684 2010-10-17 13:32:00 I was reading one of the 2010 A+ books and it said that if you plug a keyboard into your HUB it will run at 12 megs which is starndard USB 1 and then when you plug in something that is hi speed it crawls to 12 megs. I find this hard to believe because I have a USB keyboard and a USB Drive plug into my powered USB HUB and the drive does not slow down to 12 megs it keeps cooking at around 480 megs so what am I missing here? lostsoul62 (16011)
1145685 2010-10-17 18:53:00 This is only the case if you're using a really crappy hub (sadly there are a few, but they're thankfully rare) - most USB 2+ hubs will quite happily work with any speed device from 1.0 onwards, and all of the attached devices will work at the correct speed - plugging a slow device into your hub won't slow all the fast devices down.

Of course, plugging a fast device into a slow hub will result in the fast device running at the speed of the hub (e.g. a USB 2 flash drive plugged into a 1.1 hub will run at 1.1 speeds). Perhaps this is what your book was getting at?
