873157 2010-04-05 06:07:00 We are getting hit right now with a series of quakes - the biggest was a 7 . 2, but about 200+ miles away from here . They figure the effective Richter number here was at least a 6 . 0 or greater .

We rocked for over 30 seconds and there have been lots of aftershocks .

It was felt all the way up to my son's home in Missoula Montana, and Colorado Springs, Colorado .

As I type this I am getting hit again .

Baja Mexico has been having series (over 100) of 3 . 0+ quakes for the past three weeks and this is one that we really felt today .

ANOTHER hit .

I like them personally - but then again I am old and anything that rocks my world is welcomed .

873162 2010-04-05 11:01:00 Yeah, we got the news here.

Also news of one just a few kms from us yesterday at 7.10 am - said to be 10kms south of Amberley, and felt from Cheviot to Banks Peninsula. www.stuff.co.nz

It must have been centred near us, but I was asleep at the time, and didn't notice it. Only 3.8, but apparently noisy. Given that we live in a liquefaction zone, I am pleased it wasn't worse.

873164 2010-04-05 16:19:00 We got a few shakes again last night - the biggest was at about approximately 04:18:25, local time. I don't know what the NZ metric eqiuv is, so youse guys may be confused.

Is it windy in your uptilted tectonic plate? I am forming a totally non-scientific thesis on the prevalence of big winds just prior to earthquakes congruence.

I know in my heart that my research will open new and solid evidential knowledge base to the causative - er, cause of earthquakes.

Somehow I just forget that youse guys have electricity, crystal radios and a few neighbors with ice boxes by now and can actually receive news from the outside world.

My oversight, sorry.

Funny Jo the general consensus here seems to be "thick high cloud, very calm and quite, high humidity = Earthquake weather"

We have that weather here this morning!!!!!

873166 2010-04-06 01:46:00 My neighbor borrowed a DVD from me called: "2012" and just as the ground opened up in the movie, the earthquake hit.

I suspect that this one was caused by the movie and not some Cumulonimbus clouds. But I am open to suggestions.

We seem to get our "Santana" winds and right along with that comes a few tremblors the next day or so. I believe that the mountains when blown upon by the 60-70MPH winds can cause some changes in the pressure below them since they are really giant billboards as they move ever so slightly in the wind.
