| 1146972 | 2010-10-22 16:17:00 | I don't have a cellphone. I don't have any use for one. Is there a way to send the occasional (like once a month) text message cheaply? Not necessarily from email. |

| 1146973 | 2010-10-22 18:53:00 | You would have to buy a program to send 1, (so you can send it from Outlook or something) then pay to send it. It'll be cheaper buying a cheap mobile. I dont text a lot either, (but decided to get a cell), because no one in the family has a landline  Except Mum | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||
| 1146974 | 2010-10-22 19:17:00 | You can send text messages with Skype, they are referred to as SMS messages. You need some credit in your account first. | mcginty (10610) | ||
| 1146975 | 2010-10-22 20:35:00 | You would have to buy a program to send 1, (so you can send it from Outlook or something)...That's rubbish Speedy - this is exactly the kind of thing email <-> sms gateway services are designed for. You don't need any special software or hardware to use them; you just send & receive messages as if they were any other normal email contact. It's worth noting however that such services are generally intended for customers who send more than one or two messages per month. Vince: You're probably better off buying a cheap cellphone off trademe, or you may even know someone who has an old one they don't want. |

I wouldn't mind something like this myself. |

I have a spare CDMA phone doing nothing, no guarantees on how it performs though as it was (deliberately) dropped on a lino floor 5-6 times :p If you want it, PM me. |

| 1146981 | 2010-10-22 23:11:00 | Eh ..... I use Twitter's "direct message" facility to send txt/sms messages to daughter's mobile. There is no charge. Does require both of us to have twitter accounts, and requires her to "follow" me. Works internationally (also free). | PeeCeeWorldly (15890) | ||
