1146732 2010-10-21 03:23:00 The DVD drive does not show on Explorer and so I checked the Device Manager and it showed problems with the DVD Rom drive
Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-111D Properties
Location 0 (Primary ATA channel)
Device Status
A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)

Also in the same device location is another device showing this similar problem
YTMP 81Y3KLQJ0 SCSI CdRom Device Properties
Location Bus Number 0, Target ID 0, LUN 0
A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)

I checked the drivers for these devices and it said the installed drivers were ok.
I restored an image backup of Drive C (Systems and Programs) with Seagate Disk Wizard hoping this would restore previous settings but the DVD drive was still not recognized.
Would restoring the drive image from last November restore the necessary settings to make the drive operational or are there other solutions?

1146733 2010-10-21 03:36:00 What programs like Roxio / daemontools / any cd emulation programs are installed? Speedy Gonzales (78)

Daemon Tools Lite has just been uninstalled. Otherwise I have Nero 6 and Burn4Free. The YTMP 81Y3KLQJ0 SCSI CdRom Device seems to be associated with ArcSoft and their Photostudio 5.5 for photo editing is installed. I have also been trying to update my Mirascan driver but this has not been installed yet. Would restoring a much earlier system drive image possibly get the DVD drive back?

1146735 2010-10-21 23:46:00 Delete the entries under the following registry key and reboot:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Look for UpperFilters and LowerFilters, and delete them both, if one of them isn't there don't worry, just delete the one that is. After a reboot the drive should install itself properly.

How do I get to the registry keys to edit them as you suggest? This is new to me so please keep it simple! Cheers and thanks.

1146737 2010-10-22 02:19:00 Click on start and run, clear out anything in the box and type regedit, then click ok. Or if you are in vista or 7 simply type regedit into the search box on the start menu. Then navigate to the key i listed in the earlier post. wratterus (105)
