873807 2010-04-06 16:47:00 Hi...

I'm setting up a Win XP computer, and am just wondering how to secure it.

From the sounds of it, MS security essentials is what everyone's using, correct?
Should I bother about a stand alone firewall or just leave it to the built-in Windows one?

The computer is fairly old (1.4GHz Pentium M, 512mb RAM) so I don't want to stress it out too much

Cheers
Forrest

873808 2010-04-06 20:11:00 MSE + Windows firewall = Happy computer :)

Definitely worth seeing if they'd be interested in upgrading the RAM though, DDR is pretty darn cheap from the likes of pbtech.co.nz

873811 2010-04-06 20:55:00 With Win XP I use MSE for AV and Kerio 2.1.5 for software firewall, (only 2MB download, no smaller footprint) www.321download.com +NAT + 'hardware' firewall in Dynalink RTA1320 router. Terry Porritt (14)

873815 2010-04-06 22:30:00 Still using Avaast
I would not use any MS security program on principal.

I must look into Avaast's new version
Hope it has not gone like AVG did with its bloated one.

Unfortunately, it has. :( Which is why everyone is using MSE now.
