| 874398 | 2010-04-09 08:48:00 | Right, so the deal is that I want a TV in my room. Looking at a 32" samsung LCD atm. Anyway... Dad basically said NO the second I brought the idea up. So I need to convince him to let me. So my arguments at the moment are: Im 16 now and can get married, have sex, leave home etc etc so why the hell cant I have a TV in my room???, Secondly I'M paying for it myself and I've offered to pay part of the electric bill if need be. His reply to this was "You'll become anti social and never leave your room". My answer to this was "I already have the possibility to do that with my laptop... and I don't do I?" His answer was "Piss off, I'm too tired to argue right now" So I need some amazingly compelling arguments as to why I should be allowed to purchase my own TV and put it in my room. (The funny thing is that he has one in his room :D) Oh and I dont really want to go out and buy it without telling him because he isnt opposed to taking it down the the tip while I'm at school or out... Tell your parents you are 16 and need to start watching Porn, and would they prefer you do it in the the living room!. You may need to back that threat up with action preferably when they have some friends around. |

Try starting a structured debate on the topic with him. No yelling, arguing, etc. Just ask for his reasons on the matter, offer a rebuttal, etc etc. Parents do have the authority, suck as much as it might, there's no getting around it. Although if you're paying rent/board/etc, buy it, and a deadbolt for the door :D |
