Respect is a two-way street and when there are different rules for different races, or some pull the race card when they get caught doing things "other people" aren't allowed to, people get upset.

I agree 100%.

if the first case, it would be nice if people respected the iwi and did not take seafood for a few days.

in the second case the dude should face the facts of the law.
FTA , "he said he knew it was illegal".

874257 2010-04-09 02:16:00 all this thread was is to see if the local iwi's ban is enforceable by law, which by this thread i think it's not, so that's great. The article here in my opinion talks about the ban preventing anyone from fishing:

nz.news.yahoo.com

So i guess that means the article got it wrong.

that happens so often with news.

874259 2010-04-09 06:27:00 No its not enforceable in law Lance. It does not apply to European people because when a European drowns in the sea the maoris dont put a rahui on the area. prefect (6291)
874260 2010-04-09 07:31:00 this is one of the more racist threads I have seen, farnkly i am shocked at the lack of respect.

the maori people have protocol when people die, so do most cultures.

is it that hard to show a little respect?
what would you think if someone gate crashed the funeral of your friend?

all they are asking is that people don't collect seafood from that part of the coast for a few days.

it would be nice if you respected that, but you dont have to.
but to go on the internet and ***** about it? get a life!!

Not racist at all, I have full respect for maori culture, as long as its not imposed on me. It's a hame the same can't be said about maori respecting my culture.
