'Business' operates in its own framework, seperate to reality - such as community, friendship, peace and all those things that most people require. It makes sense that large businesses continue policies which are unhealthy, even for the majority- for the theory and what it includes in the equations makes it rational. Very sad. |

A project notable for the lack of thinking, just a rabid pursuit of anything that seemed fashionable, all done with the witless money wasting of a pack of competitive (whoops, nearly said Apple there) Fan-boys using public money. | R2x1 (4628) | ||

I thought the govt were supposed to get round to doing something about these out-of-control price rises? You do realise that Genesis is a State Owned Enterprise? In other words, the govt own it. In fact the govt own 75% of the electricity generating capacity in NZ. So they are caught between a rock and a hard place - reduce the price - tax and dividend drops. Keep the price up and consumers scream. Plus the less money electricity generators earn, the less likely they are to build any new plants. What I can't understand is why electricity is cheaper in Australia which relies on dirty coal-fired plants? Surely our hydro is more efficient? |

Cannot speak for the rest of Australia but while power might seem cheap in WA, it is going up, one figure I heard was 70% . And if Rudd had passed his Australia will save the world from global warming bill, the cost to the consumer for power would have gone through the roof . You can pay upto $25 just for the aircon per day with standard household power in addition to that . I have seen $800 month power bills though that includes aircon . |

All were a waste of time and money. The bit that gets me is the power price is at least 20% cheaper in Aus. Whereas we get most of our power from old Hydro Stations which have paid for themselves many times over with water being free, Australia have to build mostly Coal Stations and then mine and transport the coal to run them. Then take a look at the distances they have to reticulate it compared to NZ. Given that the Aus companies run at a profit with their overheads, one wonders what goes on with our lot. Might be time to ask the Aussies if we can be one of their States. We changed the Government and nothing improved. |
