875151 2010-04-11 09:44:00 Some years ago now we were with State which I beleive is now Tower, we got rear ended by a drunk lady in her BMW but State found us at fault even though the police charged her and she was convicted.

You work that out.

Changed to AMI and never had a issue with them.

I was with state & when a girl backed into the side of my car, they said I was at fault. Still paid out thankfully. My friend got his insurance with state canceled out of the blue after several years with them & a perfect driving history - they decided they would no longer insure any skylines for under 25 drivers.

I'm with AMI now & haven't had to claim yet but I deal with them a lot at work & they seem good at paying out. We had one person kicked their computer in anger & asked us to lie to the insurance company. He ended up not claiming when we refused to lie, but AMI said they would have covered it. Must have had some expensive insurance for them to cover that. :badpc:

875152 2010-04-11 09:44:00 State and Tower are two seperate companies. CliveM (6007)
875153 2010-04-11 10:33:00 Tower is the oldest insurance co. in NZ :D

I've always thought they were the poshy insurance co., bit like AirNZ :D
I had a look at Tower, they didn't have the life insurance that I was after, they only had stepping plans or floating plans, not fixed plans.

When I got my first car at aged 30 I think, not a keen driver, take the bus when I can :D State was much cheaper around 33% or more I think ...

875154 2010-04-11 10:33:00 AMI are great. I've claimed with car and house insurance before with no problems. I couldn't believe how easy the process was. While I haven't shopped around for comparative quotes, I would be more than happy to pay that wee bit extra for the great service they provide.

Make sure you fully understand the policy (and the exclusions/exceptions) so you know what you are getting when comparing different companies.

875155 2010-04-11 10:37:00 I have been with State over 40 years. Car, house and contents. Must be one of there better customers. Never made a claim yet.

875156 2010-04-11 10:37:00 In terms of pricing, AMI was one of the more expensive plans for myself for my vehicle. That's all I know. If I had to put a number maybe 10-20% than the "others", not just the cheapies.

Looked at AA but folks didn't want a bar of it.
They hated State.
Had a look at Tower too and the banks.
Folks had issues with State, been with them for 20yrs and said something like no evidence of forced entry, therefore the burglary was not covered, also we had no receipts to show that items that we possessed were stolen.

875157 2010-04-11 20:55:00 I am with AMI. Recently my "optional" excess doubled to $200. When I asked why, and I hadn't chosen this, they said it was to discourage people making claims.

Tower - husband did a job for a Tower customer once, the hot water cylinder had been leaking and their particle board floor was trashed as a result.
Tower would not pay out on the floor because the guy had "let it leak."

875158 2010-04-11 21:28:00 Be careful of Tower. They have had issues with solvency over the years and are just coming out of the woods.

State is part of IAG Insurance which includes NZI. Tower is a separate organization entirely.

875159 2010-04-12 09:34:00 Had a few claims with AMI, they are great, fast helpful service. If they cost a bit more i don't care 'cos they are worth it.

Wifes iPhone went down the toilet, we rang the help desk on a Saturday morning and got a claim number and picked up a new phone that afternoon. Unbeatable.

875160 2010-04-13 06:56:00 AMI here - have been fast and no problems for a few claims over the years.

Seems to be a recurring theme here!
