874632 2010-04-09 23:57:00 I have tried and failed many times to read e-books.

Yet I can read absolute crap all day on websites and forums :(

874634 2010-04-10 00:17:00 You might be surprised, Gary - a lot of authors are publishing direct to ebook format and hard cover concurrently these days...

But you're right nothing like a REAL book when you're lying in bed - although an ebook allows you to read so you don't disturb SWMBO or have to get out of bed again later to turn the light off...

Don't you have a bedside light? Sheer luxury and not a lucas in sight

Ah so you need to go lucas shopping then put off buying those new bike tyres and buy a light instead

874637 2010-04-10 01:44:00 I only need a light if I need to be awake when it is dark. Cheaper to just eat more carrots, and save my dosh for important things, like anti-chafing cream.... :D (I know, TMI!!!) johcar (6283)
874638 2010-04-10 02:18:00 Many pros and cons

I read crap all day on a regular LCD screen. For a story however,an actual book cant be beat.

What about sharing? oh sorry your proprietary bookreader doesnt allow that. Or oops, orwells 1984 is being deleted from everyones readers for some reason. And then later put back on!
I think the newer ebook readers which allow many different formats is much better.

For textbooks, absolutely electronic should be an option. Note that textbooks are a real con in the US, I got one for $50, wouldve been $150 new. And the content is very old. But it is threatened because students + expensive textbooks + electronic text = piracy.
