874721 2010-04-10 02:00:00 Ok decided im really sick of not have a tv that recieves reception, moved tv back close to plug in wall, cannot auto tune it it cant find any stations at all .

suggestions on what to do next ? me, before i spend money to get some one in and re do the cables and stuff . . . . . . . . . . . check wires and see they connect to aerial? up on roof see they get to aerial? sigh . . . . .

is there a way i can tell its the same wire each end?

will a cable be able to use a sky dish to get normal tv? or do i need the freeview thing for that? i have 2 aerials, a sky dish and a normal one ? uhf? those aluminium ones?

im thinking somehow its not the same wire from aerial that comes into socket in lounge .

is it possible i can do this? or i need someone else?

874724 2010-04-10 03:04:00 Ok thanks trev.

i think i have posted this pick before. this is my aerial.

what i cant understand is when we moved tv across the room and had long cable from socket in wall to tv we got good reception. then dogs ate cable, and so i moved tv back to use short cable and nope to recpetion......
the tv works fine for dvd's and ps2 so im stumped, maybe we have damaged cable somewhere?
i see i will need to go back up into ceiling and have a look, and if all else fails up on roof. :(

874726 2010-04-10 03:46:00 That looks like both a UHF and a VHF aerial. You might have the wrong aerial cable connected up. Try the other one.

i would be picking you have damaged cable, tv side of outlet or at worse the outlet itself. most common is broken fly lead. also check lead from vid-tv. also make sure you have them plugged into the right places ! many times seen vcr's plugged in backwoulds.

if theres NO signal what so ever then you may have a booster and power supply for booster isn't plugged in/on.

874728 2010-04-10 08:31:00 Looks like you've got a VHF/UHF mixer on that combination aerial (the little grey box on the mast), so you'll only have one coax cable going inside with a connector like this on the end en.wikipedia.org any cables from the sky dish would have a connector like this en.wikipedia.org and would need a satellite decoder (Freeview or Sky) set top box.
By the way, the aerial doesn't look very well aimed, either, possibly contributing to problem.
Another possibility is that maybe the aerial socket on the tv has been damaged (the PS2 and DVD player wouldn't be using this most likely) when the dog chewed (pulled?) on the cable.
Perhaps an aerial specialist/installer would be a good idea to sort this out, could well be something simple/cheap to fix :D, he should be able to advise you as to best course of action (analogue/digital, future-proofing etc), he'd have the gear to test your systems too.

874729 2010-04-10 09:46:00 Ok its the first cable connector, the sky cable is not there any more due to me pulling it out a while ago . . . . . . . . . . . . . dont ask, i just did cos i can .

i went up in ceiling and re cut and connected the little wires into the box in the ceiling, it says vhf /uhf or whatever on the outside of the box, and re plugged in down here . and the telling now gets a real fuzz picture, but cannot auto tune it in .

so does that mean i should go up on the roof tomorow and check that end?
how can i tell which way the aerial is supposed to point?

thankxs for all the help so far .

874730 2010-04-10 09:51:00 Just look around to see which way yours neighbors aerials are pointing and point yours that way.
