875723 2010-04-15 23:19:00 Maybe you're right, I just tried downloading a file from AusGamers, and it doesn't seem to want to go over 112KB/s

I'll PM you both with a link to my VPS in Auckland, bet my bottom dollar you get max line speed from it ;)

If you *do* get better speeds, then it's worth you ringing Telecom on 0800 22 55 98, speak "Technical Support", and when you get through tell them you're experiencing similar symptoms to that described in Case # 20264137.

Get them to add in a note that you're also being affected, describe to them the details when they ask, and hopefully they'll do something about reversing the recent changes :)

875725 2010-04-15 23:35:00 Hell yeah, Chill is on the money again!

*takes a bow*

;)

Let me know what Telecom said?

It's one of the unfortunate down-sides of being on a traffic-managed plan like this, they've basically got liberty to change the shaping whenever they feel like...

Told him my problems and got a case of my own setup, he suggested that it was slow because I was inside the peak hours and I told him it was slow outside them anyway. He then said that I should change to the 20GB and I told him nope that will be all.

And also got a reference between both out cases so anyone looking at either of them will see that more than one person has the same problem.

I can't load either of your links. I can access www.kiwilan.co.nz by itself fine though.

Edit: Works fine, my firewall was just not allowing HTTP traffic on nonstandard ports is all. Speed is definitely a lot faster than from AusGamers.

I doubt it will make any difference to Telecom though, they changed it for a reason and they're probably not going to change it back any time soon no matter how much anyone complains...

Nah they've reverted or re-adjusted changes in the past for me, just takes a few people to jump on the bandwagon...

Problem is if everybody just gripes about it and says "Stuff it Big Time is no good, I'm switching ISP's / Plans", then *they* don't know about it, and don't have the opportunity to make it better.

Being one of the core raiders in a rather active raiding guild on WoW and needing to attend 5+ raids a week, I didn't have the time or patience to see if it got better, or try work arounds.

I'm sure I could've got something slightly better working, but if one evening it turns to custard and I can't make it to a raid...:devil:mad:

Fun times.

875730 2010-04-16 02:38:00 You should call them anyway, like Chilling_Silence said, it could be worth it and it won't take long Agent_24 (57)
875731 2010-04-16 13:15:00 I've found that gaming with Aussies is fine, I do it regularly, getting between 40 -> 80ms most every day, regardless of the time of day / night.

Might be a little different with WoW, but the way WC3 Delay Reducer works, if the clients start going over 100ms, things turn to custard for them, so I'm ruthless about who I play against. WoW servers are all overseas, yes? So having a "regular" ping of 250ms isn't too bad, from the type of game-style, is it?

lol Telecom likely keep big time nerfed to some degree for obvious reasons.

If Big Time was "Awesome" for Downloading/gaming/streaming etc, they would loose hand over fist on many of there other higher profit plans.

Also you are "assuming" all users experience exactly the same quality of service as you which is clearly NOT the case.

The advice is good early on in this thread, give it a try but expect your internet "may" suck so its part of the risk.
