875683 2010-04-13 22:47:00 Yeah but the amount of times I actually use Rapidshare for anything, It would be a waste of money.

Also, I heard some people were getting decent speeds out of it, even without paying (and on Big Time)

I think it's just luck of the draw, some people always have terrible Youtube on Big Time and some don't...

Yep, somedays its good, other days its bad. But I definately think I'm getting my moneys worth.

875684 2010-04-13 23:10:00 The best part about using premium account is being able to download multiple files at the same time.

After sourcing a *cough* Linux ISO that I want to download on warez-bb or w-forums where the uploaders have broken the files into 200mb chunks, using FireFox's DownThemAll just a simple right-click, DownThemAll, Start. Few seconds later all files are downloading, on really good days I have had up to 1.5mb/s but it averages around 800kb/s.

875685 2010-04-13 23:24:00 Well for large Linux ISOs I use Bittorrent, it goes at my maximum speed, and it's free.

In the rare event that what I want to download is ONLY available on Rapidshare, I don't want to pay money for it. I use Rapidshare once every few months (or less), it would be a waste of money.

And isn't the point of downloading for free, that it's FREE? if you're going to pay for Rapidshare, you might as well just buy it from the shop... I know it's cheaper, but it's just a little ironic ;)

875686 2010-04-13 23:28:00 Can't remember the exact prices, but I think its something around $50 for 6 months membership.

The reason I prefer it to torrenting, is because at any given time of any given day, I can download from RapidShare as fast as my line will allow.
Aquiring Linux ISOs isn't slowed by seeders who may or may not be seeding at that particular time.

A common misconception about torrents

Private torrent side are a crap load faster than Public ones, its pointless limiting your upload due to ratio's. Most decent private sites you will be at maximum speed within a minute or two.

Interesting, never used a private tracker so thats probably where my bad experiences where from :)

So what exactly is the deal with private sites then? Do you have to allow X amount of upload to get X amount of speed or anything?

875689 2010-04-13 23:52:00 Yes you must upload, if you download and then don't seed too many times you get banned.

Some sites also require you seed straight after downloading without disconnection, they won't care if you come back a day later and seed 9000% (pretty stupid in my opinion)

875690 2010-04-13 23:55:00 Xtremespeeds is awesome, I have a heap of invites if you want. ;)

Very common for me to be maxing out the connection with just one torrent after 2am. Queue stuff up overnight and it will still be cranking when you get up. XS wants a 100% or higher ratio, which is fair enough.

875691 2010-04-14 00:04:00 Okie, so I can see one advantage to using RapidShare then :)

At our flat we only have 40gb from the Pro Plan, and we have to be fairly careful to not go over that limit, so if I had to waste precious bandwidth uploading... yea - one of downfalls of torrents IMO :)

It does make sense though, if you want stuff you are relying on people sharing, but I'm a greedy bastard and don't want to waste my precious on uploads :P

875692 2010-04-14 00:11:00 I'd be the same if I was on a capped data plan. :devil wratterus (105)
