876443 2010-04-14 07:30:00 I was just reading about a US$50 LED lightbulb this morning. Sounds like they have sorted most of the problems except they are still expensive & the light isn't as nice as an incandescent. The prices are sure to come down soon enough. Greven (91)
876444 2010-04-14 07:47:00 I have just replaced the two incandecsant bulbs in my lounge area to two energy savers.

One is an Omicron and one is a Phillips brand. Both are 11 watts, equivilant to a 60 watt incandescant. They are the only size energy savers that fit in my lampshades, the sort that fit up against the ceiling. I don't want to have to replace the shades as they were quite expensive a few years ago. Both brands give a similar lighting effect and are bright enough to read by etc. I also have energy savers in the two stanard lamps and the two lights in the kitchen.

Philips 20W dimmable are about $24.

876446 2010-04-14 08:15:00 Got one in my room now, it's not bad. However it is a bit green and the illuminane is not as even as the standard incandescent bulb.

Should get 1 or 2 more for the rooms, lounge uses those candle style ones which I think halogens are available and one other room uses in ceiling which I think halogens should be available - spot lights.

Just out of interest, I have a interest in photog. Are there any lights that are daylight corrected? 5500 Kelvin.

876447 2010-04-14 08:21:00 Have nice bright white ones 20W in the kitchen dining area and less bright and more yellowish in the 6 downlights in the lounge they are more like an incandescent light and quite restful so not glaring at all. Don't know what brand they are $5 at mega gary67 (56)
876448 2010-04-14 08:21:00 Winter is coming and been doing some spreadsheet with our power invoices, we're paying $150 after the prompt payment discount for power and $120 for gas (on demand water and cooking) . This is in summer
Heat pump coming in soon so will analyst that too .

How many in your family for a bill like that . We are with genesis and pay $190 a month using easy pay . Family of 4, all electric .
Look at getting a reducer on your shower head, parents saw a dramatic improvement in their gas bill when their had one installed

Should get 1 or 2 in the weekend and see how they are like, this one in here now is from 2001, a Philips 18w. :D

I might add it's a bit green and magenta. Corner of the room is not as nicely illuminated.

We have 4 people. We have Genesis electricity on their standard plan cos someone is at home all day. $150 or $170 ish before the prompt payment discount.

They like to do laundry every morning which doesn't help. It's summer time now and heaters are all off. We don't have heated towel rails etc.

They also have 2 or 3 fridge / chest freezers in the garage.

For gas - don't use the cooktops much but hot water is instant on demand, heard gas heating is much more $$$ than electricity. They also like to add hot water to their laundry. $120 with Contact.

In winter I heard that the electricity has gone peaked at $400 :D Not including gas (water).
The main room has a highesh ceiling maybe 3m high, the there is no roof space above the lounge. Also half of it is glass, we have been told to install a door to the conservatory leading from the lounge. We have at times in winter had like 2 oil fin heaters going for maybe 6hrs a day. Only way to heat it properly. Hence now of the heat pump. Then at night time the 3 bedrooms may get a heater in each for 2 or 3hr :D

No insulation either, but we getting that put in this month. The govt puts in R.28 grade, read that there is R.50 but not doing that though.

876451 2010-04-14 08:35:00 In the winter daytime, we don't tend to have the heater on, well occasionally maybe one oil fin heater to heat some of the laundry, as we have retired the dryer. We just spend the day with socks and polar fleeces and maybe jumpers :p Nomad (952)
