This series is realistic and portrays the the war in the pacific not as entertainment but as a history lesson. The first episode is about the first major offensive on Guadalcanal and by all accounts the series gets better still as it progresses. Just some facts about the Guadalcanal offensive which was a very important action in the Pacific War as it curtailed the Japanese movement towards Australia and NZ American troops mounted attacks by land and sea to annihilate the Japanese, but in the end, about 13,000 Japanese troops escaped. Nevertheless, by February 9, 1943, the U.S. troops took control of the island, helping to turn back the Japanese drive toward Australia and secure a base from which to launch attacks at the Japanese in the South Pacific. All told, 1,592 American troops were killed in action and 4,183 were wounded. Thousands more were disabled by tropical diseases like malaria. The Japanese lost 14,800 in battle and 9,000 from disease. About 1,000 Japanese men were taken prisoner. |

I'm told by a few people who've been watching it as it comes out in the US (A few weeks in front of us) that like Band of Brothers it didn't hit its full stride immediately. Loved the Happy Birthday gift / song at the end: www.youtube.com |

| 875811 | 2010-04-12 23:41:00 | A bit slow to start - but so was Band of Brothers. I'm happy to keep watching, since I am positive it will get better. If you've seen it already, don't tell me who wins!! :D |

| 875813 | 2010-04-13 00:18:00 | Yeah, it was a little slow. Was a wee bit unimpressed with some of the CGI, but apart from that thought it was good, really enjoyed band of brothers and expect the pacific to get better as it goes. Either way, it's about 120 times better that anything else on TV at the moment. :2cents: |

| 875816 | 2010-04-13 01:42:00 | No comment as I did not watch it. I watched a cooking show instead. Seriously though I have to say that some TV is not really worth watching and other shows are for me. All PressF1 members have different interests and rightly so in my opinion. |
