876591 2010-04-15 00:07:00 Gotta love those little nazis...

Anyway, I received a parking fine last night for:
"Using a vehicle while not displaying a current licence label in the manner required"

And the bastards want me to cough up a $200 fine.

Turns out my rego expired 2 weeks ago so I'm guessing thats what it is relation too.

My question is, can parking wardens fine you for having out of date registration? I thought that was more of a policing job than a parking wardens.

Obviously I will be updating my registration today and writing a letter of appeal to Berlin and the SS. :devil

Anyone had any experiences with this? If so what was the outcome?

876592 2010-04-15 00:12:00 Yes they can, and if you have an expired WOF you will also get a ticket.
There is no excuse for having an expired registration as you get prior notification from the LTSA so unless you had had actually updated it and forgot to display it I don't like your chances of getting off the fine.

Wonder where my notification from the LTSA was...

Pisses me off no end though, every year one pays the residential parking fee, pays tax, pays for rego, pays for WoF, pays for every other damn thing under the book, and yet if you happen to slip up *bang* "oh hai, we felt like claiming more of your moneys"

****ing bastards.

876595 2010-04-15 00:38:00 some one I know got a ticket while parked outside the post office getting a new rego nedkelly (9059)
876596 2010-04-15 00:58:00 Also parking wardens have been known to give tickets for insuffcient tread depht on your tyres. If you got new tyres and took the reciept to the councils traffic dept. office within 28 days they would waiver the fine.

876597 2010-04-15 01:01:00 DemonHunter, are you sure it was only 2 weeks expired? The parking wardens give you a one month and one day grace period.

The police, on the other hand can ticket you for a single day over if they wish.

Considering that some people manage to make it a whole year or longer with an expired rego even with wardens being able to ticket them, it seems it would be very ineffective to have only the police able to fine people for not updating it.

At least you get a whole month to notice that it's out of date.

Finally on a personal note, if you are going to complain about 'the little nazis', complain about the WCC policies that they are required to abide by. Most parking wardens are very nice people, and most of them even use a lot of discretion to let people away with things they could very well be ticketed for when they feel it's not very nice or fair. They are just trying to make a living, and they're generally not there because they love to make people miserable.

Yeah, my girlfriend is a parking warden :p. Let the attacks roll in ;)

876598 2010-04-15 01:05:00 It's not the warden's fault, take it up with the people who made the rules.

But if you think that's bad, you should see the wheel-clampers at eastgate mall.

I've seen them reduce people to tears, had to bail some out because they don't happen to have $120 cash on hand. Wanted to punch the ****** right in the gob, almost reached for the tyre iron too.

876599 2010-04-15 01:07:00 Just get a disk grinder or gas axe and cut it off.

876600 2010-04-15 01:15:00 A guy did that (at eastgate), was a welder by trade, so he had the kit on hand, ended up on campbell live because of it. Not sure if he ended up paying damages. ubergeek85 (131)
