876381 2010-04-14 05:28:00 I've been asked to spec a notebook for my Big Cheese, who frequently travels overseas, and I've come up with the following (make/series based on him having one for the last 4 years and not killing it until last week):

IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad X201

# Intel Core i5-520M Processor (2.40GHz 3MBL3 1066MHz)

# Genuine Windows 7 Professional 32

# 12.1WXGA LED 3x3 WWAN

# IT 5700MHD, i5-520M AMT

# 4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 (2 DIMM)

# US English Keyboard

# TrackPoint with TouchPad

# 80GB Solid State Drive

# 65W AC Adapter; New Zealand

# Intel WiFi Link 1000

He's very hard on IT gear, so I want something robust, hence opting for an SSD (80Gb should be enough - will only have O/S + Office 2003 installed), and having an inbuilt cellular modem would be good - the website lists an Integrated Mobile Broadband (3G WWAN) - Qualcomm as an option, and says it has an 'Open SIM Card for WW' - is this designed to work on WCDMA/GSM etc?

I've also opted for the 9-cell battery - price is around $3k. Does that sound reasonable, or is there something else you guys would recommend?

As I said, he's had an X-series for a few years and it's been faultless; expense isn't a concern here, it just needs to me portable and tough!!

TIA!

The only thing would be the 32bit OS isn't going to see all of the 4GB RAM.
Can you get 64bit instead?

Do you need to run some old 16bit applications that won't work in 64bit windows?
