As we taxied off the end of our runway you could look back and see two other planes in a descent path (one nearly on the ground) for that same runway! Guess the pilots have to get the planes off the runway quick before the next one touches down. Jen (38)

Yeah, know what you mean, been there a couple of times, one every 50 seconds. No wonder they call it the string of pearls! Same at LA it is.

Must've been a very quiet time on the graveyard shift, Jen. At LAX, there's usually 12 or so on final landing approaches for 3 runways. Once I was cleared for takeoff in a light aircraft to maintain 100 feet altitude to the shoreline, and a heavy (747) cleared to take off over the top of me. And LHR can be busier than LAX!
