1149031 2010-11-01 22:00:00 I think you should consider HP's business line (probook or even elitebook). They are among the best made notebooks available, but you won't find them in your regular shops. My friend got a probook and it is definitely a step up from consumer HP notebooks - less flexing plastic, more rugged magnesium alloys. utopian201 (6245)
1149032 2010-11-02 07:39:00 Now you done it -- :p SWMBO may not let you back on your own Computer.

:eek: LOL
But not a chance actually, since she does not like the desktop and doesn't know how to get into webmail, or access FFox, or even turn my desktop on (oh yes, I have told her how to do all - over the last ten years). Now if I could only find her a laptop with a colourful exterior - purple would have her jump for joy, but red or blue would be very very nice for her. Of course she doesn't care about specs - as long as the laptop is not sluggish. For awhile she wanted a netbook as it was small and 'manageable', but then she tried reading from the tiny screen and tossed that possibility. And just in case some idiot-a-la-WMG thinks of a suggesting a :annoyed: Mac, forget it - it just ain't gonna happen.

Funny that .... I was just thinking you should wrap up your old lappy in sparkling paper with a bow and give it to her ..... go shout yourself a new one

Love it. :rolleyes:
Well, it might take her a week or two to figure out that the laptop-with-a-bow is in fact her old one, but she WOULD notice. :lol:
But while the new laptop may be "her's", Strommer will use it!!! Most likely it will have Win7, so I will have fun seeing the differences from XP.

Really? Don't know a thing about HP probooks or elitebooks. I wonder what the price is compared to ASUS or Toshiba? ASUS will be my first choice, then Toshiba, but now I will look at those HP's (unless Wainui et. al. rubbish them).

OK guys, find me a nice colourful lappy for $900 - $1200ish. 14in screen. Thks

1149033 2010-11-02 19:01:00 Well as much as I wouldn't normally recommend a Dell - for the specs you want you may struggle to fond something else.

14" screen, DVD/CD reader/writer, colourful, quick - check out this link;

make sure you click on customise and choose red for no extra cost.

Had a look at some of the reviews and people seem to like this laptop. Struggling to fond anything else that fits.

1149034 2010-11-02 20:57:00 agreed, I think you'll struggle to find a high quality notebook for your budget...
The probooks and elitebooks are a step above the usual plastic consumer notebooks you find in retail shops...

Thanks. Had not thought of Dell. Cherry Red, 500G hd, 4G RAM, 512 Mb graphics, $1200. OK so far, but not sure of the processor - seems not so good compared to an i3 laptop: [Intel® Pentium® Processor SU4100 (1.3GHz/800MHz/2MB Cache)]

1149037 2010-11-03 03:49:00 It was, the build quality has improved a hell of a lot last couple of years, Dells are ok now.

You will get something with a better processor if you are willing to pay a bit more. At the price range you are talking something's gotta give.
