879067 2010-04-22 22:46:00 VDSL which is available now is very fast, but still asynchronous - you get fantastic download speeds, but not so flash upload speeds.

VDSL2, upon which this development is based, can be implement either asymmetrically or symmetrically. Depending on the implementation profile, you can get 100Mbps upstream and downstream - depending on the line distance of course, it tapers off fairly quickly over distance.

Good thing for us Telecom Chorus are rolling out cabinets to 80% of the country by the end of next year, that puts us within a 2KM range of a "node" :devil

879069 2010-04-22 23:43:00 Alcatel-Lucent's first trick is to use two copper pairs at the same time, a technology called bonding . Next Alcatel-Lucent uses a feature it has developed called Phantom Mode to create a third virtual copper pair that sends data over a combination of the two physical ones .

That is so last century!! It is the same broad principle as that used to create a blue colour signal (not transmitted) out of red & green in a CTV using a reference derived from R, B & G (otherwise known as luminance) . Now, if they were really clever they'd do it with one pair, not two, that makes it too easy .

To be fair though, I guess they need two pairs to get the necessary level of noise immunity .

Cheers

879070 2010-04-23 01:03:00 Fibre is not needed. Not when Vector's website tell you it's so you can send 50MB photos of your dog to your Grandma.

I would be perfectly happy with ADSL2+ and a large (or no) cap.

Oh wait, I already have Big Time, and I'm scheduled to be getting ADSL2+ in 5 months :D

879071 2010-04-23 03:26:00 we need faster internet over here! broadband here is like dial up in south korea goodiesguy (15316)
879072 2010-04-23 05:09:00 Technically speaking while South Korea or Japan has one of the highest availability rates of FTTH in the world, apparently very few actually use it, and those who do use it have much slower speeds / plans than the "Max of 100m/bit" advised ... Chilling_Silence (9)
