877644 2010-04-18 03:58:00 Silly question, have you directed the clean install of wmp to your safe location of your mp3's?

Are you related to my wife?

She keeps on telling me I am a half-idiot, when I know I am a FULL idiot .

But- yes, to answer your question . I thusly do point it thereupon .

have you told WMP11 to ignore the other folders on the list?

I've got WMPxx only looking at that folder with all my MP3s in it - and they are archived somewhere else for safety aagainst unwanted Linux assaults .

877647 2010-04-18 05:49:00 Sorry to rain on your parade SJ, but Firefox on all three of the computers here (in my house that is, not NZ ) also dumped Java and WMP11 seems to be OK .

It lost several files on the only playlist I have set up and I had to find them again for it . That was odd - all the files on that playlist were in the same folder, but it managed to lose those particular ones . The playlist is a mix of file types - maybe it only lost ones of a particular file type?

Anyroad, no other problems here since Firefox fired Java .

Same here on my Vista machine. Firefox on my XP netbook hasn't yet dumped Java so can't say anything about that.

Had another thought, maybe you have got WMP looking in the right folder but in the wrong hard drive .

1 . Open WMP 11 .

2 . Goto RIP>MORE OPTIONS .

3 . Open RIP MUSIC tab .

4 . Check RIP MUSIC TO THIS LOCATION .

5 . This should indicate the hard drive and the folder your music is in . For example; C:/Music is not the same as H:/Music

6 . If it's not correct, press CHANGE .

7 . In the window that opens, browse for the correct hard drive and folder .

8 . Press APPLY then OK .

9 . Rip a cd to this folder . Check make sure it is there .

10 . Open LIBRARY, ADD TO LIBRARY .

11 . Check music folder is also the rip folder .

12 . Select any other folder/s and click IGNORE .

13 . Press OK . Allow WMP 11 to do it's search .

14 . Done!!

My Eee/pc had JAVA Update failures last evening . THAT I find strange .

They tried to get installed and Firefox stated they failed .

OK - I'll make sure of that too . I usually keep the WMP stuff in the same place, but I let my downloads from Firefox and my GoDaddy! account go to a different folder/drive . I'll correct that .

1. Exit WMP. Goto CONTROL PANEL> ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS>SERVICES

2. Turn off any Service with Windows Media Player in it's name.

3. Goto RUN - type or copy and paste the following line:

%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player\

4. Create a folder named OLD in the new window.

5. Drag and drop the existing files into the new folder. Leave ART CACHE. Close Window.

6. Restart any SERVICES you turned off.

7. Open WMP 11. Goto LIBRARY, ADD TO LIBRARY.

8. Check your MONITORED FOLDERS. Tick the ADD FILES PREVIOUSLY DELETED FROM LIBRARY.

9. Click OK. Let WMP search for music files.

10. Done!!

Bad news.

It's still humming after 4 hours of trying to 'find' audio files. It won't let me click on anything - the screen is just frozen.

The Media Sharing card is there almost over the WMP file search and I cannot get under that card to allow WMP to manually search all files.

Nothing's movable or accessible and I will have to use CTRL/ALT/Delete to get out of it again. It is totally frozen.

There were no ART Files nor ART CACHE files to not add to the new folder.

There were no WMP-related SERVICES running in the list, so there were none to restart either.

Let's get serious!! Close WMP 11 . Goto your Music Folder and right click on a song . In the menu select PLAY WITH WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER . WMP11 should now open up and play the song . Does this happen?

From your earlier reply, I'm a bit confused by the following lines;

How can WMP do a file search if you can't manually tell it to do so?

I had to do a Repair to XP via the installation disk and just now got back on line with this computer .

OK - WMP11 is removed again and rolled back to WMP9 for the fourth time today .

I went and ran CCleaner after I dumped WMP11 - which just sat there and would not respond to my click for it to go find files . The link was dead .

A card pops in and says that WMP11 cannot find any files and asks me to point it to whatever folder/file I'd like - but it is just a false card and when I click it - nothing happens . I let it try all last night and this AM it was still sitting there humming .

The card that pops over the WMP search link won't move out of the way - and this one is asking me if I want to share or not the files in WMP . I've tried both ways - three ways, really - 1) YES 2) NO 3) just 'x-out' the box .

Nothing happens in any of the three situations - it just sits there .

There never was anything WMP-related in my SERVICES area - nothing at all .

If I got to a MP3 that I know exists, and right click and ask it to open in WMP - it will . But that's the only thing that will show from the "NOW PLAYING" area .

There are NO files/folders/Albums/Artists or anything in the Media List area of WMP at any time .

If I close or stop the MP3 that is playing at that moment - it disappears from the list in MEDIA and I have to go to the folder again, find what I want to play, right click and OPEN WITH WMP all over again .

BTW: There never was any ART CACHE either .

Maybe under the hood - WMP is a Linux program .

I just now got a Firefox warning that JAVA is still screwed up and FF needs a reboot . I thought this was fixed a couple of days ago too!

BRB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
