877465 2010-04-17 10:41:00 The only thing at the moment is really TVNZ On Demand. And it SUCKS. Full of ads and its really bad quality. Its quicker for me to pirate a TV show... xyz823 (13649)

And that's the gist of it.

877467 2010-04-17 11:05:00 Nobody seen CASPA with TiVo?

Works on Big Time, they prioritize it, and all other Telecom plans it doesn't count towards your usage.

Aside from that, I know a *lot* of people who get their TV shows etc off Torrents, though the legality of that is a grey area, but it's essentially the same, you watch it "When you want", same as TiVo or On-Demand stuff.

877469 2010-04-17 20:09:00 TVNZ on demand is rumored to being released on the PS3 this week. PS3 streaming music videos is great(vidzone),runs smoothly even on bigtime plod (107)
877470 2010-04-17 21:12:00 Xbox Zune, but you pay for the movie and then pay for bandwidth so I have never used it. Hopper (14491)
877471 2010-04-18 01:26:00 the big problem is how many people actually have ADSL and how many have fast enough ADSL to be able to stream videos. if its one of the setups that doesn't cache/buffer the movie you just can't watch it on basic ADSL.
i've only got low speed here (rural lines !) and you have to buffer half the video to be able to watch it uninterrupted.

877472 2010-04-18 01:55:00 It's not so much the speeds, but the bandwidth.

If you're on a semi-decent ADSL2+ as most of the country will be by the end of next year, then it's FAR more than sufficient to stream even 720p HD stuff.

What's restrictive is the bandwidth allowances, small 5 -> 20GB caps.

TiVo has proven it's easy to do when you have zero-rated usage for the data, the free music videos start almost instantly...

877473 2010-04-18 02:43:00 got to disagree with ya chill, speed is a big issue as well as stupid data caps/price.
there won't be a lot going to ADSL2+ and most can't afford to. still at the mercy of old crappy copper wire and expensive plans.

877474 2010-04-18 02:59:00 I don't bother streaming much with the exception of YouTube because generally I want to watch the content more than once and easier to download once. However Hotspotshield is easy to use and does the trick if I want to watch US based content directly from their web site.

Otherwise I just use Torrents through EZTV.
