1148769 2010-10-30 01:56:00 Hi Team

I've been using Irfanview and its associated "Thumbnails' prgramme for some time but today, when I really need it, the Thumbnail program is throwing up errors. It intially starts ok and shows thumbs then suddenly pops a windows with the message "IrfanView has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." with the usual associated stuff about sending the error message to Microsoft.

I tried a simple reboot first but that didn't help, and I was still on V4.2.5.0 so I updated to the latest version but there was no improvement from that either.

I've tried a fairly extensive web search but didn't get any relevant hits.

Error signature is:

AppName: i_view32.exe
AppVer: 4.2.7.0
ModName: lmpgspl.ax
ModVer: 4.0.0.84
Offset: 00009865

Any ideas? (or links to another thumbnail program?)

Cheers

In the meantime I think I'll look for an older version in my download files!

1148770 2010-10-30 02:29:00 Thought I'd try W2K compatability mode for one or other but no change. :(

It was a thought, but I think both programs are contained within the one exe file anyway.

1148771 2010-10-30 02:35:00 I have a similar problem with ulead photo express 3. I have a feeling the photo's (i.e jpeg's) are not now associating with it/or it's gone corrupt, since I started using photofiltre a lot more. Using XP.

I think you can "try" associating (or re-associating), by opening any folder in explorer, then under tools - options - File Types - scroll down to JPeg (or similar extensions or what ever file types you are using) then click change tab to select the program. Not saying it will work, but might.

1148772 2010-10-30 04:32:00 OK, I looked at that but all file associations are ok. It seems to be more a "fatal error" program shutdown than a failure to associate file types, in which case I'd expect a 'file type not recognised' sort of message.

It is a typical 'fatal error' type of response where you get the 'Sorry I died' message but nothing about the calibre of the bullet.

I haven't installed any actually Speedy and I don't really play music on my work computer. If I do, I just have the MS CD Player so whatever codec that calls on is what I would use.

However, very strangely indeed, thumbnails suddenly started working again and have continued long enough for me to get the work I wanted close to completion. I changed nothing and didn't reboot again since that was no help previously, but for whatever reason it is still going.

I'm not going to argue with a gift thumbnailer, I've opened and closed it a few times without problems so here's hoping it stays that way.

1148776 2010-10-31 02:15:00 Bugger!!!

I got right through to the end of the thumbnail file-list last night (took several hours) and noted all the file names or numbers I wanted, but today the same Irfanview thumbnails problem is back.

I wonder if something else I have running is interfering, possible MSE?? because that was fine last night and is buggered up again today, telling me I am possibly unprotected.

Any other ideas?

1148777 2010-10-31 09:40:00 Update: Shut down Thumbnails then went out and left it mid-afternoon, came back later in the evening, started Thumbs again and it is fully functional once more.

This is weird!! :badpc:

I'll leave the computer on all night and see if it is still ok in the morning.

I think the program is working to rule, damned Hobbits have given it ideas above its station!

Cheers
