1150237 2010-11-04 03:52:00 What's the current consensus on a reliable Internet service provider that I can consider? I am looking at getting one for the family home in Glen Eden (West Auckland).

Requirements: Broadband, 2 - 5GB data cap, not very fussy about the speed.

Cheers :)

Orcon.
Orcon will automatically bundle in a telephone line and a telephone with all Internet packages, right? Which cuts out Telecom completely out of the equation?

[Edit] I see that the Naked DSL option is available. Looks like it is cheaper to go for the broadband + phone line bundle than Naked DSL alone.

1150243 2010-11-04 05:42:00 Xnet are quite good. They have always had a good service for me, they offer free downloads from Akamai servers (which includes Windows Updates and pretty much anything from the Microsoft site, plus a surprising amount of other downloads), their plans are pay per meg, where you set the cap yourself and only pay for what you use, and they offer a pretty decent naked DSL option which includes a VoIP line. Works out quite a bit cheaper than line rental plus internet and the tolls are quite cheap too. ryanjames.powell (13554)

Thanks for your post, Ryan. I am wary about threading through the Xnet water as I have heard plenty of horror stories regarding their services. Having said so, I will keep an eye out for more Xnet comments.

1150245 2010-11-04 06:01:00 Well so far over the last 6 months Xnet have been fine for us, the move to them from Vodafone wasn't by choice. Vodafone are also fine gary67 (56)
1150246 2010-11-04 06:07:00 5 GB for family home (and family network I assume)?. Won't last a week or two will it?

Anyway just started using Xtra Pro with total home package. Might suit for total family heavy internet usage, as I have progressed/exceeded limits of all their plans. They include a free nominated toll call number starting from home lite package.

Oh one more thing - you were Jamus (or thereabouts?), judging by your sig...
