If you want to offer free public wifi, and just limit per-device how much they can chew through, then use something like Gargoyle Firmware on a Linksys WRT54GL. If you want to charge for it and offer them tickets etc that they can come back and re-use (Or similar), then you want something such as the NetComm HS1100 + Thermal Printer. This solution is completely independent from your PC and ties in nicely even with a dumb-Till. Use something like the Linksys AM300 as the ADSL router, put it in half-bridge to the secondary wireless device (The WRT54GL or HS1100) and set the DHCP lease to renew every 2 minutes. I've done both solutions before with great success :) |

| 1150068 | 2010-11-03 03:47:00 | Actually if you are getting a business plan the supplied router is a 2 wire which is fairly decent. | Deimos (5715) | ||

| 1150070 | 2010-11-03 10:19:00 | You've still not really said what you want to achieve. No, you can't really install software on every single persons PC who comes to XYZ Cafe, doesn't work ... You need to sit down, think about what scenario you want, and let us know first ;) |

| 1150071 | 2010-11-03 11:11:00 | i know i dont want to install software on every client pc what i want is a way to set client quotas example the client can only use 100mb of data within a 24 hour period client authentication client needs password to access wlan easy to monitor software for staff meaning a way to monitor traffic who is connected etc not software for the client pc but for the server/router security so clients connected have no access to business pc's can this be done by using some type of vlan or different subnet and locking file permissions down on server pc's ? current machine in office runs win 7 64bit which would be to monitor usage etc |
