880305 2010-04-27 03:58:00 Hi a friend asked me to recommend a laptop

The use will mainly be word processing, email and photos but I don't want something underpowered if shes multitasks

I personally would recommend Toshiba or ASUS but only because I have had good dealings with them in the past

Heres and Hp I was looking at

I really like the look of this especially full size keyboard bit over the money though

Please give me your recommendations and any other suggestions

880306 2010-04-27 04:11:00 Don't touch the Compaq. They feel cheap, they aren't well built and they run far too hot. :2cents: I've seen plenty of those with faulty motherboards too.

Is there anything wrong with this one?

Or DSE has a 14" Tosh L500 for $899 if you want to get a smaller one.

Asus or Toshiba are definitely the way to go for new notebooks, tosh has a better range around the $1000 mark, the asus are often a bit dearer.

Giggity.

880307 2010-04-27 04:27:00 Yeah I like the tosh from pb but its just a bit pricey I'll see if I can persuade her
I did like the fact that it had a C2d I imagine its a bit power hungry though

Cheers Wratterus I have a look at the L500 see if she wants something small or not

Giggity Goo.

880308 2010-04-27 04:42:00 That Compaq 610 is a business model so pretty basic in terms of extras.
Eg: it only has one speaker instead of two so no stereo sound.

Have a look at this one:

More expensive but much better specs.

880309 2010-04-27 04:54:00 I have used a lot of those Pentium Dual Core Toshibas, (Not C2D) and they aren't slugs. For what you're describing, one of those cheaper ones would be more than adequate IMO. wratterus (105)
880310 2010-04-27 05:39:00 I have recently helped 2 friends set up the L500 that Wratterus recommended. It is more than enough for working on word processing, email, and photos, (at the same time), and at a great price. AvonBill (11358)
