879874 2010-04-25 09:04:00 Got a new 42" Panasonic Plasma HD TV with built in freeview..

Problem is I can't get the Sky signal to play through it. and have never had a Freeview TV before (dont really need it with sky anyway)

Have the Sky decoder downstairs connected to the TV down there, but have an aerial cable running from the decoder upstairs to this new TV. This is how it was on the old TV upstairs and you'd simply go to channel 0 and whatever was playing downstairs on Sky would play upstairs as well.

Anyway have the aerial cable connected to this new TV but I can't get anything from Sky downstairs to play. All the Freeview channels are distorted as hell with the screen occasionally going black with "no signal" and all the channels under "analogue" are simply crap quality.

1) How do I get the Sky channel from downstairs to play through it
2) How do I stop the Freeview channels (digital) being so distorted?

(the aerial that goes through Sky goes to an outdoor aerial and the Skytv is very clear)

Hope that makes sense and someone can help

879875 2010-04-25 09:09:00 If you were changing it to 0, it was probably connected with RCA cables (to video in, or AV 1, 2 or something), not into the aerial. Plugging the aerial in from the other tv, is probably screwing freeview up. Use another aerial Speedy Gonzales (78)
879876 2010-04-25 09:11:00 Nope was definatley connected with the aerial.

I think I've found it under channel 4 on analogue TV (thought it would've been digital?) but will have to change it downstairs to double check.

Anyone know why I can't get a decent freeview picture? Does freeview work with the Sky outdoor aerial?

879877 2010-04-25 09:16:00 Put the freeview TV on 0 then then tune it in. Thats probably why its not showing. But I doubt thats how it was connected before Speedy Gonzales (78)

Was DEFINITIVELY the aerial duplicating the Sky channel, only other thing plugged in was the Xbox.

There's only one outdoor aerial and that's what I'd like to use, which is what is connected atm. To watch Freeview will I have to use an indoor aerial?

879880 2010-04-25 09:34:00 Is Freeview HD available in your area? You might be out of range. If your sky satellite box is connected via an aerial cable, you should be able to use the auto-scan feature on your TV to pick up all available channels & your sky box will be one of them. Greven (91)
879881 2010-04-25 09:36:00 Got the sky channel sorted, it was channel 4 on Analogue TV (mode?)

I don't know about freeview HD...My guess is Freeview reception is just crap? (or at least through a Sky satellite?)

879882 2010-04-25 09:56:00 Freeview TV's (I believe) are terrestrial only (DVB-T, through a UHF arial). Therefore attempting to tune in through the Sky satellite (DVB-S) isn't going to get you very far... Sherman (9181)

You must have an old UHF aerial too - your TV doesn't have a satellite tuner & sky boxes don't give you access to freeview because most of the channels are already available through sky.

The reason the sky is on analogue instead of digital is the digital signal from the satellite is converted to an analogue signal by the sky box so your TV can pick it up through the aerial connection.
