www.nzherald.co.nz

article says police are "deciding whether charges would be laid". Is this just tough talk from the police to not embarass themselves because maybe they can't charge the guy with any crime?

879685 2010-04-24 11:51:00 No Lance. It's because the so-called art project devices do look like bombs, and the police were right to be paranoid about it and cordoned off the area.

The "deciding whether charges would be laid" part was more like "deciding whether to press charges against the 21-year-old guy who did not mean to create harm or security concerns" when he placed the cameras around the bridge.

My 2 cents.

:waughh:Another well thought out post by Lance4K:waughh::confused:

They could charge the guy with wasting police time.
So no the police aren't trying to look tough.

879688 2010-04-25 01:38:00 What a ******. He should be charged, and made to pay back whatever it cost the police for his little stunt. Cato (6936)
879689 2010-04-25 02:27:00 Apparently, you have to show intent to waste police time. The person who put the fake bomb at the Dunedin airport will, I suggest, be charged and dealt with by the full extent of the law. (we're stuffed if he isn't)

The polytech student didn't do it with any ill intent, as the officer on the TV said, he should have informed them prior to doing what he did, especially given the circumstances of the previous day.

His little stunt? I don't think what happened is actually what he intended to happen.

879692 2010-04-25 06:47:00 He was probably trying to do something along these (http://www.solargraphy.com/) lines.

Failed in the execution ....

I think you'll find the Police will simply see it for what it is, let him know he did the right thing by turning up at the location , warn him to be more careful next time, and move on. Nothing to see here folks.
