She was in the express lane (12 items or less) she asked for and got every packet of smokes they had, (some name I didn't catch), but it was a green packet, and menthol. She walked out of countdown with two of the big plastic shopping bags bursting at the seams and laughing at holding every one up for around 10 minutes. :groan: |

As Marnie said most Europeans have wine at the table with their children, it teaches the kids that drinking is fine but don't overdo it. Obviously though some on here will resent the mention of Europeans and say it has no relevance to NZ but they are Wrong I guess having wine with your children is acceptable in some cultures, but cannibalism is a bit frowned on in this country. I suppose as long as you don't smack them before eating them it is a step in the right direction. |

The Maori want consultation but was this legislation consulted on? It does nothing. Labour f*&%ed up when they introduced MMP because they wanted to get into bed with the Greens. Look at the mess we have now. Ugency is semantics :) |

| 880429 | 2010-04-29 00:19:00 | I think putting up the price of fags will hurt maoris families. This is because in my opinion from observing polynesians at work is they only quit smoking when they are so ill they cant flick the lighter. They will continue to smoke and the money will come out of their meager household budget and the kids will suffer. Smokers are addicts perhaps they could get get fags on script from chemist in plain white box at a lower cost. They do a methadone thing for druggies so why not baccy addicts. A lot of them die early from obesity before the smokes cause fatal damage so smokes might be getting the blame unfairly. Out of 5 poly smokers (maoris and islanders) here today none are going to give up, maybe this sample group isnt enough for a national statistical average but I reckon the price rise wont stop that many of them nationwide. Kids are going to miss out on school trips etc, they need buses for school trips so it might impinge on my bottom line as well. |
