879455 2010-04-26 07:42:00 Really sounds like you are heating up space you won't be sitting in as heat is inclined to rise. Perhaps get really tall chairs................... Not serious but it does sound like poor house design.

Perhaps a couple of ceiling fans need to be added.

879456 2010-04-26 07:58:00 The previous owner was from the UK, he had installed gas taps around the main heating area :D but we don't use.

It has a ceiling mounted fan ..

The roofing style is this:

The ceiling design:
Look at this:

Above the window there is a brown color timber. Imagine that is all glass, that is the part the curtains do not cover. That is all interior space.

Re: the support beams it is like this:

Note how it is long and it extends from the front of the lounge to the back.

879457 2010-04-26 08:47:00 There's only one thing for it, pull it down and start again, only this time build it around a heat pump and some insulation. ;)

Sight unseen, you'll have to trust the EECA contractors to do the right thing. It's near on impossible to give you advise without seeing the actual construction.

879458 2010-04-26 22:19:00 Make sure when the HP is on that the heat deflector is pointin down about 30 degrees to the wall. That way the heat is deflected down and across the room. It then ceates a current to circulate in the room. Do not have the deflector point straight out parallel to the floor! Bryan (147)
879459 2010-04-26 23:23:00 It's a floor mounted one.

Due to the design of the house a wall mounted was not suitable. You either have it at the each far sided wall which takes a while to heat up, in the centre of room the walls didn't have access to the outside, it was a internal wall. So its drilled downstairs piped via the garage and tunnel to the outside for a $1,400 installation cost.

Given the height of the room, a floor mounted one might make sense.

879460 2010-05-03 11:59:00 just got a call back from Noel Leeming, no EECA subsidy with them, the price wasn't cheaper at all vs the professional installers without EECA subsidy, you could choose to get it too, everyone is eligible for it . So he said 24hr price only, 24 months interest free or discount for a cash payment People tell me what to do, nice try . . .

May I ask which Noel Leeming store? I can provide some "quality feedback" to the powers at be as it shouldn't really be like that - there should be no "discount for cash" . . . . that's against the law to say that & they really should be competitive with the "professional" installers, we are at my store! (and we usual professional independent certified installers who run their own specialised heat pump business - we just supply the HP units & organise the installation)

They also should have pointed you towards an approve eeca installer for the insulation part in order to keep your business for the hp unit .

$800 - $900 back to back seems to be the going price these days - there are some cheaper option heat pumps around the $999 mark with Mitsubishi & Panasonic but you will find these are fixed speed models, not inverter like 90% of the range .

An inverter heat pump will automatically vary the speed of the compressor (which adjusts the temperature of the air leaving the heat pump) to match the heating/cooling needs . A fixed speed heat pump will switch off when your room reaches the set temperature, and switch back on again when the room cools down . An inverter heat pump will heat or cool your room faster, maintain your home at a much more even temperature, and is approximately 30% more energy efficient than a fixed-speed heat pump .

Interesting way to calculate the running cost per year on heat pumps using the energy start rating - look at page 3

879462 2010-05-03 12:23:00 It was Porirua.
Wasn't sure if cash, he meant was c/c or eftpos or just cash or eftpos.
We had a guy in for insulation already, I think we might of mentioned that to the HP visit guy or even to the guy in the store.

Yes it was around that for back to back but we need it to be piped outside and drilled downstairs to the garage prior.

Re: the prices. Generally. I think they are the same, Noel Leeming has no EECA subsidy (according to NL's contractor). NL's approach vs EECA guys without subsidy is roughly the same. But EECA gets subsidy for everyone, $500 off, that makes EECA guys cheaper.

The same means +/- 10% of course for variance ..

But the guy who came to our house was a tad more. Fujitsu 5.5kW I think it was floor unit for $4,500. $1.5k for installation was included.

EECA was $4k for 6kW Daikin floor standing incl installation. $500 more for extended setup. Minus discount.

In addition I looked at one for a bedroom which don't qualify for a EECA discount. I still found the EECA guys are a bit less. I think a Mitsi 3.2kW was $2,200 with installation included but plus $500 for extended installation.

If we got NL to do it, that would be approx, pick a 3.2kW HP and then add $1,500 installation fee ....

Daikin guy coming this Thurs. Insulation was done today.

Why is it against the law?

879464 2010-05-03 20:34:00 Why is it against the law?

About a year ago at the Farmers, we asked about what discount they would give for cash and got the following......

We are not allowed to offer discount for cash as that discrimates against those people that don't have cash and / or would otherwise not be able to afford but would also like to purchase said item.

My reply to that was if they cannot afford it, they shouldn't be buying it anyway which got rather a hostile look.

Noel Leemings, Harveys, PowerStore, etc , they will all talk to you if you offer cash, some stick to the listed price but offer something else to encourage a sale, sometimes they reduce the price further.
