| 880411 | 2010-04-28 05:23:00 | I might be wrong but I dont think raising the age to purchase piss will make one tiny iota of difference. If young people want to get on the piss as is their god given right they will find a way to get the piss. When I was 15 at Motueka High School we sometimes had to drive over the hill to the rattrap hotel in upper Takaka to get piss. They would sell you a few crates if you had some money and a heartbeat. So if we had to drive over one of NZs biggest roaded hill to get some crates. I am sure the young people of today would do what ever is necessary to get some piss for a party. So why make it hard for them just punish the people who cant hold their piss and play up, no need penalize everyone. Nah, it would make a difference, not everyone can drive 'over the hill' and get sloshed, lowering the age limit has only made it worse, why keep it easy for them? Like I said it wouldn't stop them all BUT would stop some, now if these little punks that caused trouble on the grog, if their parents were responsible for their actions, would they think twice? Some would, some wouldnt, but I am sure their would a difference, but I guess we wouldn't know if we didn't try. Maybe even the availabilty of alcohol could be downsized.... I mean in 4 roads where i live there are 6 liqour outlets off the top of my head, excluding supermarkets..... |

| 880416 | 2010-04-28 07:45:00 | Don't smoke (angelic look), thank goodness my first cigarette made me violently ill, :yuck: but I do have an interest in wine, which I feel is already taxed to the hilt. I don't overdo it. Yes, I know, tobacco and tobacco products are too. If their aim is to combat binge drinking and drink related problems, they have several sections to look at. Amongst them, I wish they hadn't lowered the age several years ago; but a lot of European children have wine at dinner, without seemingly having the same youth drinking problems as we do. Personal responsibility has a huge amount to do with it. |

Perhaps "pealing back" should have been replaced by repealed as in a law was passed and then taken off the books as it were. I can't be sure but that is the way I see it. |

As Marnie said most Europeans have wine at the table with their children, it teaches the kids that drinking is fine but don't overdo it.
