2010-11-07 22:09:00 | What's your video card? If you have a Radeon, you may need to run the Live CD in Safe Graphics mode. | Agent_24 (57) | |
2010-11-08 00:21:00 | What is POST? No Radeon - on board NVidia I think. sarel

2010-11-08 00:22:00 | POST= Beep when you start it | gary67 (56) | |
2010-11-08 01:34:00 | POST = Power On Self Test. The self-test of the hardware that the BIOS performs when the computer is first switched on. A single beep is the usual code to tell you everything is OK. This is the case 99% of the time but some PCs will do 2 beeps or none or something completely different. If the POST fails, you either get a different beep code (3 Long is usually RAM problem for example, 8 short is often video card error) Sometimes, if the fault is bad enough you get no beeps, and nothing happens whatsoever.

2010-11-09 05:06:00 | sarel sarel oh sarel... you know what happens when you start to play  Sounds like a dud CD. Is this a CD you have burnt, or bought?

2010-11-09 05:13:00 | Yeah try another CD, it could be that one is dodgy. I assume CD comes before HDD in your boot order though? (The options are set in the BIOS)

2010-11-09 18:53:00 | Boot order - yup, CD before. OK Myth, I'll d/l it afresh and burn it over to a CD again. The funny thing is Myth, I could "install" it from Windows but it would never run after booting. So whether it is a dud I wonder. sarel

That would be the Wubi installer (the one that installs inside Windows) Which version are you trying to install? 10.10 I assume? Have you tried the 10.04 in case it is some issue with the new version? Are you installing to a 2nd partition on the same drive as Windows, or to a different hard drive? |
