1149808 2010-11-02 21:32:00 Change PC's or plug in a laptop only - there may be something starting to go stupid in the Computer, causing problems.

Change PCs??? I only have one.
It's the same PC I had down south, well it got a new case and a new GPU up here. I had the ASUS modem down there too. Without issues.

1149809 2010-11-02 21:42:00 Then theres the modem - no filter, filters in the other 2 jackpoints, swapped them out, no difference.

Do you have a filter on the modem? Going by you comment you haven't. You need one on the modem.

Also don't forget about a filter on SkyTV have you have it. I have had this jackpoint kill BB and give hugh static on the line.

Have you tried plugging in one of the "faulty" modems?when you have
a good working connection with a working modem on it?
Or have you tried one of them on someone else s connection ?
I have to second, problem is puter related and it will follow you.

A filter is not required on the modem, it can be connected direct into the phone jack.
Filters are only required for phones and other equipment connected to the line.

1149812 2010-11-02 22:46:00 Maybe so but I have had to put filters on the modem to solve this very issue. berryb (99)

You can't. What the filter does is filter out the high frequency which IS your broadband. You'd cut it off.
It's there to filter it from devices such as phones and dial up modems, not ADSL modems.

Yep, I already said I tried the ASUS modem at my sons. It was fine.

1149815 2010-11-02 22:57:00 The filters that have the "modem" and "phone" jacks can be used. The "modem" jack is just straight through and shouldn't make any difference but in saying that I have found by installing this device it solved a static line issue. May just have been coincidence or some kind of wiring fault but it worked on more than one occasion.

Although this probably has nothing to do with your issue.

1149816 2010-11-02 23:28:00 After I change a modem the problems vanish for a while. But they come back.

Which again I wonder if it's partly a heat thing. The issue can creep in quite quickly around this time of year and you'd be surprised. Just because the Billion worked down south doesn't mean it'll work higher up the country in warmer temperatures and closer into the summer month, in a potentially warmer house...

I'm not saying it definitely is, but I'm saying that I wouldn't rule it out. I've got a spare brand new Linksys AM300 that you can test with somewhere, I'll try and dig it out, test it at my place first, give it a real hammering to make sure it ain't about to die, then pass it on to you to try with if you want?

When's moving-day?
