| 880235 | 2010-04-28 16:54:00 | Have used a small artists paint brush to pollinate flowers because the bees haven't been able to do there thing . Fer sure? I see teams of workers with small aspirators going from tree to tree, up and down ladders and I guess they're blow-pollinating orange and lemon trees here . All my apple and almond trees had huge swarms of bees and have set their blooms and folded and now are creating fruit - which is both good and bad in the I may get another couple of killer freezes yet . Today it's cold, foggy, rain coming down parallel to the ground with winds over 50 mph (81KPH) in gusts - and there's a threat of snow showers to 4,000 feet . We are at 4,200 feet/1280 meters . The temps here today are hovering real close to freezing (32ºF/0ºC) and yesterday it was almost human body temperature (37ºC) out . Go figger! If the trees get ice built up on them from sleet, then they are safe as the ice won't go below freezing and it them protects them . NOTICE: Human body temperature may vary from hemisphere to hemisphere and my assessment of typical body temperature may not be the same as youse guy's . |

| 880241 | 2010-04-30 19:50:00 | Hi SurferJoe Came across your thread and found this excellent summary on Wikipedia . wikipedia . org/wiki/Colony_Collapse_Disorder . " target="_blank">en . wikipedia . org I have personal experience with fipronil and found it definitely causes some of the symptoms talked about . Ain't it? Good stuff to read and C O M P R E H E N D as all the food (yes, even sheep!) need the bees . The sheep don't need them for insemination of course, but the things they eat need bees . Some people are so nearsighted that they don't think this is important enough to cause a rally and at least some press-inches! Everything organic (having a carbon-based life cycle) eventually concedes that pollination is not overrated at all, but rahthah important in the general scheme of things-living and maintaining that balance . Let's start a rally for the bees . :D:wub:banana:thumbs: |
