1151041 2010-11-08 02:21:00 I have been looking at a PB Technology CPU setup. One of the features was a ATI4850 1G Video Card. Today they have changed (updated was the word I think used) to a Nvidia GTS450 1G Video Card.

Is that a significant change please ?
Misty

PS - just noticed that the price has also gone up $100 + GST :(

1151042 2010-11-08 02:28:00 They're comparable in terms of performance. The 4850 is a previous-generation mid-range card from AMD and the GTS450 a current-generation entry-level card from nVidia. inphinity (7274)
1151043 2010-11-08 02:32:00 The Nvidia GTS450 is a significantly faster card, probably close to 30% faster in most games over the ATI 4850.

Seems you are not looking at the same web page or is this part of a system?

Hi Battleneter
it is part of a system. My need is to do with photography (no gaming !)

1151045 2010-11-08 02:42:00 If you want to compare benchmarks have a look at This site (www.videocardbenchmark.net) - the GTS is ranked 38, while the 4850 is ranked 43 (lower ranking is better) wainuitech (129)

The difference is more like 10% under most conditions ;)

Thanks wainuitech
Have had a look thanks ! My need is to do photographic editing using Photoshop Elements. Am a bit worried that the price has edged up $100. Not sure that is an appreciable gain (against the extra cost) for what I want to do ?

It isn't. My father is a retired photographer, he uses photoshop and has onboard graphics. You don't need a fancy GPU for what you want.
