1151009 2010-11-08 02:06:00 I had a friend bring me a flash drive with all their business data on (too bad they didn't have a backup)
The computer will recognize the flash drive, but wont allow access: "Please insert disk into drive F:"
I have tried several free programs but because the usb drive isn't in fact recognized by windows - they in turn don't recognize it either.

As you can imaging the friend is quite stressed about getting their data.
Is there anything you can suggest to retrieve the data?

1151010 2010-11-08 02:08:00 I have used Linux on a boot CD to overcome something similar once gary67 (56)
1151011 2010-11-08 02:11:00 I've used a program called GetDataBack (www.runtime.org) on an external hard drive that had the same error message. I managed to filter through it's findings and recovered the data I needed. It's not free but well worth the cost.... GR8Metal (14133)

GR8Metal - thank you. will check it out.

1151013 2010-11-08 03:40:00 This might be a bit out of order, but say your computer has C & D drives already, then plug in a USB stick to take up E (or two to take up D & E if C is all you've got) and then your friend's stick will become Drive F, which may just open Pandora's box, or not.

Worth a try? Won't know if you don't.

Cheers
