1151022 2010-11-08 01:49:00 I seek a free on-line secure file storage for an MS Excel file so it may be viewed/edited only by specific others; it's a list of club members with private details which other committee members need to access. I've been using "Google Docs" for that purpose, but we find it awkward and non-inuitive to operate compared to normal Excel (Google re-format the data).

Please can anyone suggest a secure file storage site where a kosher xls file can safely be 'parked' for access/editing by others.

Maybe what I suggest is unrealistic, but I'm trying to avoid someone saying later "Oh so-and-so is just what you needed - it's identical to driving a proper Excel spreadsheet".

1151023 2010-11-08 01:59:00 in hotmail you can upload/edit excel files etc when you click on the office tab above your inbox. GameJunkie (72)

was just playing with that, its allows you to upload and share but doesnt allow you to edit it online. you have to download it first and than edit it. are you able to edit documents online like Google Docs?

1151025 2010-11-08 05:12:00 There is also Zoho sheets (www.zoho.com/) for online collaboration, and also Manymoon (http:) (review), but geared for Google Docs and Google Apps. kahawai chaser (3545)
1151026 2010-11-08 05:28:00 I know Microsoft's Office Live (www.officelive.com) works very nice with office 2010, not to sure about earlier versions though.

You can have a document / spread Sheet in the skydrive, sign in, then open it, it loads on your PC, do the editing, you save it, and it updates the changes to the online version --- And its free.

mind you, if you wanted it COMPLETELY on line MS Web Apps (office.microsoft.com) will work. Heres a screen shot (www.imagef1.net.nz) of excel.

Both are in the same place, and you can either upload an existing document / Spreadsheet, or create a new One.

The web apps has the program on the site, so its slight different than a uploaded version (less functions on the web based)

Hi ronyville, to edit in the browser, just click on Edit Document on the top left of the screen. Have a look at wainuitech's screenshot for how it looks.

You can get the web apps either from Skydrive (which uses your Live ID), or from Docs.com (which uses your Facebook login).

Both versions allow you to keep the documents private, or share with people you choose, or make them public.

1151029 2010-11-08 21:34:00 Hi Ronyville. Yes I certainly can edit my Google Docs spreadsheet online, without downloading it first. It's just that the platform is difficult to run and edit. My collaborators (fellow committee members) have simply given up, finding little commonality with Excel; and if one makes a mistake it can take a long time to fathom out a recovery plan. 1151030 2010-11-08 22:27:00 Thanks Waldok, the MS Web App as suggested by Wainui looks interesting
